And he'll come back and say "Look at what I did the year prior to Artemi being on our team."
I get it, some of his success is a product of playing with one of the best players in the world, but he also played really well since becoming a Ranger and that shouldn't be overlooked. He's a guy who's on his third team in a short career. Maybe something finally clicked mentally. - Bean_Dip
33pts in 63 games? Thats worth 5.7m? |

Yes, he has done well with and without Breadman. But, if he thinks $5.7M is warranted then I think something finally CRACKED mentally! - Tonybere
Yeah, $5.7M is a crazy ask. I just don't agree with the point that he's solely a product of playing with Panarin. |

Thanks for the write up, Jan. Interesting topic choice.
Personally, the length of the season does not alter my opinion on Strome. I am of the belief that he should be brought back on a short term contract unless there is a clear option to upgrade (I do not believe this will be the case this year).
Besides his connection with Panarin, he really isn't a terrible 2c. Bottom half? Sure, but I would rather tread water in a kookie season than make a poor decision that will plague the team in the future.
My choice contract for him would be 2-years @ max $5m. If they can flip him next year because of Chytil's progression or they find an upgrade, that would be the cherry on top and good asset management. - Bean_Dip
Agreed.
And I voted for you. |

I hope it goes to a hearing and the Rangers ask him "what are you without Panarin." Would love to hear his answer - TPC
I hope Strome signs for 5 years. |

It's not. I just don't get the Strome hate, he's a decent player. |

If he’s not considered part of the teams future beyond this year, they should just walk away. I don’t see the point of keeping him around otherwise.

Have a feeling we are going to hate the Lemieux signing.
My prediction is Jack Johnson being the new whipping boy. |

I don't think its hate. I think he is a decent 3rd line center. He was made a decent 2nd line center by Panarin and now wants to cash in on it. I'm not down with that |

I get that. I'd be fine with $4.5 for two years until we see if we have anything in the kids or via FA once the buyouts come off the books. |

Here is a list of all the players whose cap hit last year was >5million sorted by center. I get that some of this list isn't primarily a center, but just to show you that Strome's ask isn't that ridiculous.
For the record, I wouldn't pay 5.7, but as I said it's not some out the behind ask either:

I'm not sure I'm getting your point. Because I feel every one of the players on the list, aside from Zetterberg and Bozak should be making more than Strome.
And I don't hate the guy at all. Just feel they shouldn't pay one dollar more than they are comfortable with for someone who is mostly miscast as a 2C and isn't in their long term plans. |
