If the Rangers want to contend, then they either need to keep Strome or trade for a center. |

We've seen that they aren't enamored with anything that's out there. So, sign Strome and start prepping the kids to see who might step up.
Lemeiux I'd walk away from if the arbitrator came back with a figure of $1.00. But, I know that's not a popular opinion. |

I don't think Lemeiux is worthless but with the depth he probably falls to the 4th line. I think he could be effective there, but he can't get paid like a 3rd line player. |

this coming season is going to be such a trainwreck, they may as well just accept the Strome offer and just get through this warlock of a season with these buyout cap hits and the expansion draft coming up.
Next summer, or next off season, address the 2nd line center position, go big |

Thanks for the write up, Jan. Interesting topic choice.
Personally, the length of the season does not alter my opinion on Strome. I am of the belief that he should be brought back on a short term contract unless there is a clear option to upgrade (I do not believe this will be the case this year).
Besides his connection with Panarin, he really isn't a terrible 2c. Bottom half? Sure, but I would rather tread water in a kookie season than make a poor decision that will plague the team in the future.
My choice contract for him would be 2-years @ max $5m. If they can flip him next year because of Chytil's progression or they find an upgrade, that would be the cherry on top and good asset management. |

They could start Dec 1 and play more games |

They couldn't flip his rights, what gives you idea he would be flipable in a year or two |

Because we shouldn't have as much need for him. We can take a lesser return and still be in a good position. IMO. |

Just saw that, crazy ask. Even if met in middle, that's above the $4.538 walkway figure. |

Agreed. But honestly, I don't think the ask is any more out of whack than the offer. $3.6M isn't going to be accepted by anyone who just spent a season as a 2C and put up over 50 points. |

I wrote that, thought the figure the Rangers' submitted would be closer to $4 mil |

I hope it goes to a hearing and the Rangers ask him "what are you without Panarin." Would love to hear his answer |

If season really will only be 48 games, then yes my view changes on Strome.
Rangers should sign him for only ONE year deal. The idea that we could sign Strome for two years and then flip him in second year of deal is dangerous. Teams are broke now. Another shortened season ( with less than 100% fans attending ) will only add to the financial woes of several teams. Free agents seeing a depressed market this off-season will see it only get worse next year. Point is, we may not be able to flip Strome because teams will only want to obtain league minimum salaries.
The only good thing about this from a Rangers perspective is we get rid of the $13 mill buyout cap hit off our books to help us re-set the FOLLOWING year. |

Strome's ask of $5.7M represents an AAV that's higher than the 2020 walkaway number.
Per the MOU, and for 2020 only, if the player is awarded a contract that is higher than $4,538,958, and the club walks away, the player has 4 days where he can accept the clubs Arb brief offer. |

And he'll come back and say "Look at what I did the year prior to Artemi being on our team."
I get it, some of his success is a product of playing with one of the best players in the world, but he also played really well since becoming a Ranger and that shouldn't be overlooked. He's a guy who's on his third team in a short career. Maybe something finally clicked mentally. |

Yes, he has done well with and without Breadman. But, if he thinks $5.7M is warranted then I think something finally CRACKED mentally! |
