I get that. I'd be fine with $4.5 for two years until we see if we have anything in the kids or via FA once the buyouts come off the books. - Fenrir

I'd be ok with $4.5, too.
Hey, regardless of who the guy played with, he put up >50 points and had career highs. Just not willing to back the truck up and pay him whatever the (frank) he pleases either. |

I'm not sure I'm getting your point. Because I feel every one of the players on the list, aside from Zetterberg and Bozak should be making more than Strome.
And I don't hate the guy at all. Just feel they shouldn't pay one dollar more than they are comfortable with for someone who is mostly miscast as a 2C and isn't in their long term plans. - Tonybere
I get doing a 1 to 1 comparison on this is faulty. There are 52 players on that list, there are 62 centers on the first or second line. If you think Strome is a 2nd line center, he should be in about the top 60 in center cap hits.
I'm not saying I'd pay him the money, I've just always maintained if Strome asked for a number like that, it isn't some made up number and that resigning him was always going to cost more than people would think it would.

My limit is 4, and I only want 1 year. Next year Rangers are going to make some moves. |

Fair enough. I don't think it's exactly a "made up" number. But, I think it leans closer to unreasonable than reasonable. I don't think $5M is a crazy number for him, but it's the absolute ceiling for me, given his talents. For the NYR in 2020, I'd put the ceiling at more like $4.75M. A full million higher is way too much. |

I honestly think he wants 5, but his agent would be foolish not to ask for a higher number, basically negotiating 101. Just like I think the team would take your number, but no way they would start their initial offer there.
I wouldn't be shocked if in this era of COVID, if Strome isn't the first of many for teams to walk away from offers. Really any arbitrator can't base information about a covid adjusted market figure. I think both sides should agree to your contract right away. Both parties probably are worth more to each other than any other open market options.

Would you pay 5 for a 3rd line center for more than a year knowing he isn't in the plans and the Rangers will have a bunch of cap space next year to make moves?
Its going to be a (frank)ed up 48 game season if you believe reports. Strome isn't the signing that wins us a cup. So I really don't even see the reason for signing him |

The problem with that is that the move you do want to make has to be available. Looking at next seasons UFA class, there are only a couple centers that I'd want and they might still sign an extension (Paquette). I agree with you that I don't want to sign Strome long term, but unless some trade comes out of the woodwork, some combination of Strome and Chytil as your 2-3 centers might be your best realistic option.

I just don't see Strome as a cup winning 2nd line center. I would love to have him as a 3rd line center. I think that is where he suited for |

The hole in this logic is the assumption that there is another option available to be a cup winning 2nd line center. There just isn't.
And the combination of Chytil/Strome for a year is better than the combination of Chytil/(?)... |

There is no goddamn hole in my logic!
Chytil is the #2 the end.
Honestly though, in this dumb ass season coming up, give me Chytil for the year and lets see where he is at. Next year is the year for moves. |

Chytil had better up his game this year if he is to become #2. I'm rooting for him to take that spot from Strome.
Still think 2 years fro Strome depending on the $$. |

My whole thing is if there is ever a year to see what we have in certain players, its this one. I don't want anyone signed to more than a year that isn't part of the future of the team |

This I agree with. We all love Fast and I know he did a lot of other things on the ice but he scored 29 points playing on a line with Panarin. He obviously didn't sign for the money Strome is asking for but this notion that anyone that plays with Panarin would score close to a point-per-game is wrong. Strome deserves some credit for what he did last year. Having said that I've said for weeks now I think they go 1 year $4.6 which is looking more likely with these numbers thrown out there and I don't see anything wrong with that. |

Don't worry guys, on day one I'll let you know the dirty details on the Kennedy assassination and if there are aliens among us. Might hold my cards on big foot though. I feel like that's a chip I can cash in at a later date. |

I think we have the same idea for the season. Slight difference is I would want to give Chytil the first half of the year to build a bit of confidence, thus making a guy like Strome a necessity. |

Good teams often have 3 good centers. If I’m a couple years Strome becomes a dangerous 3rd line center similar to when we had Brass down there, that would be a good thing. |
