From a roster planning standpoint, JVR is a killer to this team. IF Frost shows enough to make the team, and IF all the forwards are healthy at the start of the season, then I honestly feel JVR should be the 13th forward.

The team can get by carrying him & his contract this year with so many guys still on ELCs, but it's going to be absolutely brutal next season when Hart & others need to be paid. And they need room for Frost (if not this year) and any other upcoming prospects.

They can make it work but they’re gonna have to cut money elsewhere. If we re-up Giroux in two years it’s gotta be at a significantly lesser cap hit. Hopefully Braun is replaced by York by then too.

Love Philly sittin 5th. Vegas sees promise. Well, or at least a line they think will garnish bets...

Canadiens aren’t ready yet, but at +5000 that’s a little bit of a tease for a small wager.

He chose an odd at the lowest end. If you like Philly, you can get +1600 and even +1800.

I think we should kick the tires on what it would take to pry Jack Eichel from Buffalo if there is any truth to him being unhappy.

What do you think they would ask for, from our entire org?

Moving future firsts aren't nihilistic if you are a good team.

You need to be a GREAT GM to make a winner and it takes bold moves.

I understand Daryl Morey never won in Houston, but not for lack of creativity, or trying. Just thinking out loud about what we need to do.

The worst outcome for next year would be a relatively similar roster and nothing to show for it.

Edit: Coutourier and Frost? Upgrade to a younger first line center and the cost is an unproven prospect?

If he plays like he did in the bubble....your right. But hopefully he went home looked in the mirror and comes to camp hungry. JVR can score...and that’s something the Flyers need.

IMO he can only score when being played in ideal situations. Put him & keep him in the top 6, alongside the teams top players, and give him PP time, and yes he'll likely finish with 25-30 goals. He was blessed with a scoring touch. Put him anywhere in the bottom 6, and/or force him to concentrate on a complete game like AV did, and his point production dries up. I don't think he's capable of creating scoring chances for himself or his linemates on anywhere close to a consistent basis. He needs ideal deployment to get anywhere near his maximum potential, and if not given that deployment, he's basically worthless

I don’t think he’s getting dealt right now unless it’s a severe overpay. They’re trying to build around him. I doubt Hall signs long term there but they’ll get a good return for him at the deadline. I think that franchise could turn a corner in the next 2-3 years if they draft well. Eichel and Dahlin shouldn’t be that hard to build around honestly.

You mean a 27 year old Selke winner who is generally ranked as a top 15 but not top 10 center, with very mediocre playoff stats and a kid with talent but who could not crack the lineup or even the bubble roster?

Would you trade a top 5 just-turned-24 year center in the league for that?

I would definitely do that deal, but no way Buffalo would (or should) do it.

(I agree with the general need for transformational talent, but many here disagree.)

Let's look at this logically.

What are Jack Eichel's playoff stats? Eichel the last two seasons has been pretty much an 80 point player and around the 30-35 goal mark. He was on his way to a 90+ point season if it wasn't cut short. Couturier, who as you've already stated is a Selke winner and a dominant defensive center while recently having back to back 70 point 30 goal seasons. No doubt that Eichel is the more dynamic offensive player and is younger. Other than youth, an argument can be made that Couturier is more valuable player to a team.
Now we need to look at Frost, which involves some speculation. He could bust or he could develop into a 60-70-80 point forward. Which is it going to be? I think it's the latter.

I think you overstate Eichel as being a transformational player..

If the Flyers can’t upgrade on offense or defense, I think we really have to bank on Morgan Frost making the team now or Nolan Patrick being healthy enough to play.

I don’t think JvR is a killer to this team. I don’t think we have enough depth/talent in the middle to help support JvR. If Giroux isn’t going to play center and gets moved to the wing and Lindblom is as good as we think he is, that puts JvR playing on the third line, playing with who? Scott Laughton? Derek Grant? Is Morgan Frost NHL ready? Is Nolan Patrick healthy enough to play? We’ve had much deeper teams in the Briere/Richards era. This isn’t a deep team.

You really put him up there w/ McDavid and Crosby and OV? Because the level of production isn't even in the same ballpark.

I'm not even sure if he belongs in the next tier down, with the Malkins, Stamkos' and Matthews'.

I was kidding. I don't consider him generational. People were trying to tell me he was a few weeks ago.
