Eklund: January Start, Possible Olympics Pause, All On the Table

If they play doubleheaders then every team can easily play 82 games. The bubble showed us that tripleheaders are possible on the same ice.

Game 1 at 12pm - AHL affiliates
Game 2 at 4pm- NHL
Game 3 at 8pm - NHL rematch

You could sell maybe 5,000 tickets so fans could be spaced out and enjoy a 12-hour day of hockey. You can also expand the rosters so maybe you have 5 lines, which will be helpful in the doubleheader.

If Olympics are postponed:

Start Camps in mid December and play 4 preseason games between 12/20-12/30

Start the reg season on 1/2, play 82 and end around June 15th

First playoff round 6/17-6/29
Second 7/1-7/13
Third 7/15-7/28
SCF 7/31-8/13

Draft last week of August, FA starts 9/1

The following season can start on 12/1 and the playoffs would end in early July

If the Olympics aren’t postponed, reduce the regular season to 70 games. That will shave off 3.5 weeks and SCF would end by July 20th

NBC has paid one jillion dollars for the Olympics - they don't want any sports competing for the advertising dollars.

The NHL will not play during the Olympics.

The NHL shouldn’t be concerned at this point about the Olympics, they need to fill the coffers. What will come 1st for a player NHL career or playing in the Olympics? I know is an honor to play for your country but now is the time to mend the NHL.

Open the Olympics back up to the amateurs, let the scouts judge some high level play, win or lose.

Best league can do is work out deal w NBC on TV contract to help float them till a legit season starts.

They did not "swag an estimate". They have to provide data to the FDA. There are standard procedures. If they monkey with that in any way, that huge company is finished. So for hundreds of millions, they would sacrifice hundreds of billions of $.

Give up what? After a flurry of UFA signings, things have gone very quiet. Lots of big names still available. No RFA wars. No offer sheets. No buyouts. No Hoffman. Seems strange.
