I question Edmonton's goaltending and I think Vancouver will be battling for the last playoff spot. |

Making predictions based on teams that rarely play each other is damn hard, but I'll take a stab

The team I think I'll be most wrong about though is Winnipeg. I think goalies will benefit most from the travel schedule and they could ride Hellebuyck |

Another with Calgary near the top, you guys think Markstrom will be the difference maker. |

I think markstrom will help and Tanev is an under rated defenseman, by many Canuck fans, he will help solidify that defense.
The forward group, although unspectacular, is a hardworking group that should be able to play well in this compressed schedule. |

I like Reuby but sometimes he is wrong. I think Calgary will surprise some by how bad they end up being. But what do I know? |

Eklund has Calgary second also and we know how wrong he usually is. |

Winnipeg still has probably the best top 6 in the division. Solves lots of regular season problems.

I think Markstrom will play a big role, but a little concerned that he might not be as amazing when he's less busy. I also just think they are solid up front and their defense is one of the more complete groups 1 through 6 (though regression from Giordano and Tanev is entirely possible). Its a group that has been together for a while, which should help them early on |

I'm not very sold on Stastny but you're right that on any given night they could be the best 6. Just really not sure that offense and goaltending can cover that defense. On paper they are dreadful back there... |

Always been a fan of Giordano, but he looked a like he has taken a step back. Tanev is also on the tail end of his career, maybe they will be solid.
I’m not much of a believer in their offensive stars, don’t know much about Ward but maybe he can inspire them to be top two in the division but I like Vancouver’s chances better than Calgary.
I absolutely hate Toronto, (childhood thing from back east) and always place them low in everything, but they have some serious offensive talent that to me ends there.
Edmonton, also in my opinion, have the two best offensive players in the league, but there are questions about their defensive side of their system and I’ve never been a Tippett fan.
This is probably the hardest year to make placement predictions because of the frequency of playing so many games against the same opponent in your division, mini series is really going to create quite a few hard fought rivalries. And because of that I actually like Vancouver’s chances after watching the tenacity in the recent playoffs.
But I am not a fan of Green’s style and the last series of just collapsing in front of Demko made me want to rip his balls off and...well you know.
If we get that style of coaching bottom six, we get the 1st two playoff series coaching, top three. |

The thing that would scare me if I was an Oiler fan is Tippet's past relationship with Smith. Probably going to get more starts than he should
The concern I have with Van is Green's commitment to splitting his team into offensive-defensive (or top 6/bottom 6) groups. That tactic worked fine enough in the playoffs, but with some outstanding goaltending.
Sucks for Canucks/Flames/Oilers though, they lost out on expected doormats LA, SJ and ANA and picked up Toronto, Montreal and Winnipeg, who I'd wager are much better than those teams |

I agree with Makita that this is a really hard year to predict placements. My seething abhorrence for Toronto also blinds my judgement. I think Calgary suck. Their offence is weak. I hate the Oilers. I don't think Montreal be at the bottom of the heap.
One thing for sure, the rivalries will be intense. |

👍
This covid situation could be a big factor during this season as well.
I made a prediction quite awhile ago and stuck with it for this prediction page, although I think Hamonic is a big difference maker for the defense on this team, which could help make them a serious contender for division title |

This year is so different in the sense that it is like a season of mini playoff's with teams playing each other 2-3 times in a row. I think Toronto misses because they don't seem to be that great at this type of hockey, and they got older and slower over the summer. I also don't think their Back-up will do well for them. Freddie will provide decent numbers with more wins than loses, but Campbel will be the opposite. They will need to ride Freddie as a result and that will be bad news for them down the stretch. I also think half their team are choke artists.

Toronto (regular season team - young but not new to the league so will benefit from a short season.... but just a regular season team.)
Edmonton (drai and mcjesus can carry this team. i see them going on big swings - win a lot in a row, go in a slump and so on.)
Montreal (the real big question marks, just like in past years is price and weber's health/play over the long run.)
Vancouver (young team that will take advantage of the shorter schedule but with a shorter/condensed schedule, their depth will be exposed by injuries. blah blah blah about this not being an issue for just the Canucks.)
Winnipeg (why aren't they better? seems like they should be but they always seem to be lacking. at this stage, i ask again, why aren't they better/consistent?
Calgary - my previous point about injuries affecting a short season come into play here. Treliving is gone this season. Put that in your book Mini.
Ottawa - Thank god they have the draft. But at the end of the day without better ownership (who allowed the arena to be built way out there?), they'll be a poor team with good young talent who never seem to get anywhere.
btw - i see a very tight race between van/wpg/cal for the last playoff spot. so those 3 teams are pretty much on the same tier. |

The other thing I realized the other night thats much different than other years is that every game has the potential to be a 4-point swing since all games are inter-division. It used to be that you could poop the bed in your division but blow out the Eastern Conference and stay in the race... This year every game lost hits you harder in the standings with less opportunity to make up ground |
