Carol Schram: Thoughts on Jake Virtanen, Danton Heinen — and Nikita Tryamkin
Saturday's rumour mill was churning with talk that the Canucks and Ducks were working on a trade involving Jake Virtanen and Danton Heinen. It's tough to make the money and cap hit work for both sides. Could Nikita Tryamkin be the answer?
Thanks Carol, I'd be happy to have Tree back providing he's matured, and Jim Benning won't be here much longer so Tryamkin might be more open to signing in Vancouver
It’s nice to see Gadjovich, Lind, Rathbone having some early success this year. Maybe those first 2 can push next year for bottom 6 roles. Lind is going to be a good one.
I try to keep in mind that the AHL is playing at limited skill because of the Taxi Squads but I do ask myself could Gadjovich be worse than Roussel? Jake has one goal and hits no one so couldn't Lind do that also?
Jasek Lockwood Gadj and Lind are all going to be at least three years removed from their draft year next year so why not look at them?
I think that Heinen is the type of player that TG would like in his bottom 6. Now only if the Canucks could change out another 2-3 more bottom 6 players. They might look mid table respectable.

I did respond to your comment in the last blog. You can go back and see if you like.
Yes, seeing that is a bit sad that he's just a ghost of himself now.. I think that version is gone for a number of reasons: he's playing against younger/smaller guys there than the NHL, he's usually out of position to make big hits and that doesn't fly as much in the NHL, he got neutered a bit by coaching/that suspension, he doesn't want to put in the effort to make those plays.
Re Tryamkin - he might not be good enough at the hockey to play in the NHL, but with few options, he might be the best one for next season (later this one)
Re Edler - he’s still important to the team but man, 0g, 4a, -5 averaging 20+ min per. Yes, he plays the “hard minutes” but for the $6m or whatever they could do better.
Re Virtanen - just ride it out. Give him an actual opportunity to succeed or fail and if after next season he doesn’t warrant a contract, trade him for a 5th or walk away.[/img]

It’s not apples and apples, but I could be the back up goalie for league minimum, cheer on the guys and let in 7 when I had to play, but would that really help? Ok, let’s be honest, it would probably be 17 but...

So yes, Gajy could be much worse than Rouss - 1970vintage
Interesting, forgot about taxi squads and AHL level being lower.
Still better than them sucking on a lower quality year hahaha

Looks like Franky doesn't want to take money back on the Jake deal.

And yet he’s paying Baertschi to play in Utica, Lui to not play, etc. it he really wanted to save $ he’d have all his one-way guys in Vancouver and send everyone else down.
