Yea. I could understand waiting to see what Seattle has. What they load up on to sell. And who they take from us. And agree. I feel it’s been the same excuses for 10 years. - Peter Richards

If the Flyers are considering a trade or signing, Fletcher brings it to Scott for final approval. WOW!! - login
Fantastic. Can't wait to see which assets Dave Scott decides to trade to go for it all right now. |

Having Scott involved in any hockey decisions is a scary, scary thought. We'll see what comes to fruition but his comments are very concerning.

Also from yesterday:
It being a 4 year window is your premise, not mine. I don't have a clue of where you're getting that from. I'm looking for this team to be a contending team for a decade. Players in the NHL can be strong players well into their 30's these days. A new player can mesh much sooner than 2 years. I don't know where these arbitrary numbers come from. Last year was Hayes first year with the Flyers. Did it take him two years to mesh? How about Niskanen? - MJL
I explained the 4 year window yesterday in detail yesterday. Its if you want to make a run during the time when Couturier and Hayes are at their peak. After that, you will hit a time when they start to decline but will still be expensive, just like Giroux and Voracek today.
Let me reprise the last 14 years (!), during which your viewpoint has been remarkably consistent:
2007: Young core: Richie, Carter, Coburn etc. Key Vets: Briere, Kimmo, Hartnell, Gagne etc..
You: the future is bright (at this time, lot of people here used to think you worked for the Flyers)
2014: Young core: Couturier, Schenn brothers, etc. Key Vets: Giroux, Voracek, Coburn, Simmonds etc.
You: the future is bright.
2021: Young core: TK, Bee, Myers, Provorov, Hart etc. Key Vets: Couturier, Roo, Hayes
You: the future is bright.
When is the future actually going to be the present, amigo? Why isn't the bright future
ever turning on the lights today? is it perhaps because the future is not so bright after all?

No, I think it's pretty simple. So Ekholm is going to be the savior that stops the franchise goalie from getting strafed? Man, Ekholm is going to be more expensive than I thought if he is that good. He made really a silly point. Unless the player is a dominant NHL defenseman such as Hedman or a few others. One player is not going to effectively change the Flyers team wide defensive issues. - MJL
It may not wipe it out, but it would surely help? Key departures like Niskanen often cause a domino effect. |

Shop some of our veteran guys and send out who’s going to get you the best return (looking for young promising prospect or a high pick from a bad team). Hopefully you can move out two or three guys. The new core of this team is relatively young in Hart Meyers Sanheim Coots TK Farabee. What exactly are we doing now? Just hoping they turn it around? Say they do, what is this team at best, win 1 round of playoffs ? - ClaudeFather
Exactly.
I strongly believe this is not a contending track team is on. I ship out $.
1. Salary held + 2nd rounder for Seattle to take Voracek
2. Ask Giroux to waive NMC before trade deadline next year so he can go to a contender. Tell him he will not be resigned anyway. He will fetch a decent prospect.
3. Ghost ditto.
4. Draft high for a couple of years. Get back on the Hextall track.
5. Use $ _ bunch of picks/prospects to sign some UFAs to cock and reload when current core matures and we see exactly what we have.
Is that a guarantee? NO. But its a guarantee this team is not on a contending track. I would rather gamble given that. |

You know what? The Schenn trade itself, the book hasn’t been written yet but by trading Schenn, we ended up bringing back a comparable player in Hayes. I prefer one over the other but I really Farabee from the Schenn deal. Right now, who knows who will reach their potential first, Patrick or Frost. |

Interesting statement with patty and frost. Shame frost got sidelined. Nopa, if he can get through this year with no issues and the offseason, I would expect a lot more next year. It’s almost like his rookie season agin this year. Not the same but similar for Oscar.
Frost injury just sucks. I know he had things to work on but he hopefully would’ve been playing and gaining experience.
Also Allison just activated. More of the young guys getting to the phantoms. F d up year for development though. |

We have a ton of young talent on both forward and defensive side of the fulcrum. Its a much different environment from the 2012-2018 years...the farm system was awful for that period. If we could trade G and Voracek to have more cap flexibility, I'd take my lumps and do that. The truth is with the flat cap no one is going to take on those salaries. While there was so much optimism based on last years regular season performance, but they are obviously not ready to win. Fletcher can make a small move or two, but unless something falls in his lap stay the course and hope the young guys start to play up to their billing. |

Does the talent on forward include Patrick / Frost / Lindblom ? If so you might want to rethink things |

It really isn't simple at all. Its a subjective call which can go either way. As landros2 pointed out yesterday, there is also the benefit of not having your vulnerable future franchise goalie get strafed to consider.
One can take reasonable positions on either side without being wrong. - PT21
Your correct. There are some sound reasons why the Flyers should try and replace what they lost in the Nisky retirement. Multiple media have reported the Flyers have made inquiries about Ekholm. In fact he’d be an upgrade on Niskanen. He would definitely replace what they lost in Nisky. Better yet he’s no a rental. I’m not sure why anyone could watch this d and think something has to change. Maybe on someone’s PS4 the Flyers can get by with these guys. But this is the real NHL and the Flyers have a definite need on the back end and Ekholm would definitely be a step in the right direction.
You can sit back and pick apart any player or trade, but anyone watching knows the Flyers need to continue and try to upgrade. I really think some people got used to Hextalls inability to take the Flyers to the next level. I’ve said all along I’ve never been sold on the current core, but I also think they are in a position to add some pieces to help them get to the next level.
