Lucky for the Flyers that the fate of a team does not rely on individual player rankings on websites but rather on the collection of players that make up that team and how they mesh and play as a team.
- MJL

Unluckily for the Flyers, no team in the past 2 decades has ever won a Stanley Cup without having a single player figure in the top 10 in any position.

based on the lists I provided, see whether we are on the track to achieve that metric.

But then, what has empirical facts have to do with your reasoning?

Convo has reached diminishing returns. Time I dipped.

Probably needs to wait til after the expansion draft but with what a tire fire the Sabres have become (both in the front office and on ice) I’d have some interest in Ristolainen. Eichel might very well get dealt but I think it’s a pipe dream to think Chuck would blow up our team to add him.

I would look at free agency before making a trade giving up key assets.

Did you forget that the Flyers are either losing Myers in the trade for Ekholm or are losing Sanheim in the expansion draft due to trading for Ekholm?

Trying to trade your way into being a contender is a mistake.

- MJL

This isnt necessarily correct. Flyers can grab Ekholm for this season and expose him in the expansion draft. Obviously to go thris route you dont want to give up too much to get Ekholm

Flyers could also protect 8 skaters + Hart and protect 4 Dmen

Flyers could Keep:

Giroux
Hayes
Konecny
Couturier
Provorov
Ekholm
Myers
Sanheim

This would expose:
JVR
Voracek
Ghost
Patrick
Lindblom

Which isnt too bad IMO. You said it yourself Patrick is likely a career 3C, Lindblom is one player Id hate to lose but given his struggles this year maybe they pass over him

You say you fully understand, and yet right above, you ignore the part that says that he was waiting for the Giroux/Voracek salary cap space being freed.

If you are drafting outside top 10 for the most part, and playing the long game, then the results are exactly what they should have been.

The very nature of the plan was low level stagnation till the time came.

- PT21

That’s because we all know it wasn’t a true rebuild. Hextall tried to keep the Flyers competitive while trying to replenish the farm system. I don’t think he was waiting for Giroux and Vorecek space being freed...(frank)...I can see a 5 year plan, I’m pretty sure no one signed up for an 8 year plan, which is the time frame needed for the Flyers to divest them selves of those contracts....besides they signed JVR...so obviously Hextall was starting to make moves for the “right now” before he got canned.

How many teams that have a player in the top 10 in the league haven't won a Stanley Cup with that player?

Seems as though in your repeated false premise, you always forget about that empirical fact in your reasoning. Or should I say lack of.

Sean Couturier is a top 10 center in the NHL right now.

Trying to rebuild an entire defense through drafting was never going to get this team anywhere all those years.

I honestly thought they held onto Simmonds way too long and certainly weren’t doing any of the other core vets any favors by keeping them in place with a very, very subpar defense. Typical Flyers perpetually treading water at the expense of never being able to get above it.

Speaking of star power...

JVR is currently a top 5 left wing.

No, I wasn’t expecting that, but it’s a fact. He even fits PT’s drafted top 5 normal star profile.

Barring a complete NYR collapse. A win tonight would put us 1 point behind BOS

They’ve been shutout by Wedgewood and Kinkaid in the last week. Every time I watch them against anyone but the Flyers they look like a flaming bucket of piss.

Well to this point Fletcher has not really listened to him much. Let's hope that continues. Not at all a fan of Dave Scott. He should stick to the business side and let the hockey people run the hockey side.

Tbh, I have not yet seen any Scott comments that bother me. He cares and wants the team to win. Fletcher makes the calls but they keep an open line of communication. I guess I just don’t read the same stuff between the lines as others, but in action...so far so good.

I wanted them to win the lottery that year, so they could select Kane. I was so sure he was a future hof player I even had a jersey with 88 on it. That’s proof.

Also, I knew that Patrick wouldn’t be any good. I was so convinced, I went out and bought a number 19 Patrick jersey his rookie year. Again, Empirical proof that I can predict anything and 50 percent of time it works. Every time. Sarcasm alert activated.

There is a half season left...I know they've been terrible since their Covid break but nothing a little 3 game winning streak won't fix. Who really expected them to win a cup this year? Not me. Just a few weeks ago the hadn't lost to anyone besides the Bruins...they will get hot again

“We’re looking at the trade deadline as, ‘What can we do?’ I can tell you I’m still committed to investing and making this team as good as we can. I don’t want to hold back. Now is the time to really lean in and whatever we have to work with, we’re going to work with it.”

I think Dave Scott needs to go back into his office and work on his TPS reports. This comment is worrisome.

I don't. That was comments made by jd250. He said he would trade Myers, a 1st round pick for Ekholm. He later amended that to not trading Myers and then trading Gostisbhere in a package for Ekholm and then protecting Provorov, Myers and Ekholm in the expansion draft. Leaving Sanheim unprotected.
- MJL

Now my President is throwing his GM under the bus and running him over a few times to boot! As senior partner and GM of the Flyers, I might have to get a new President!

If the Flyers get Ekholm without trading Myers or Sanheim, which would be preferable, then the Flyers would have to protect 4 defenseman in the upcoming expansion draft but that would mean they would expose every forward except G, Hayes, TK and Couturier (Farabee is not eligible for the ED). If they decide instead to protect 3 D and 7 forwards, then either Sanheim or Myers would have to be left unprotected. So you have to consider this when you trade for Ekholm. I for one could care less because I don't believe Sanheim or Myers will ever be top pairing D, but you have to at least think about it.

I think they need some practice time. I’m glad they’re giving hart a bit of a breather away to re set and just work with the goalie coach a bit. Let him get technically back in synch

I'm sorry, but Nashville is not going to give you a discount because you tell them you are going to do something really dumb and leave a player like Ekholm unprotected. What are we holding on to here?? This team is not good and their prospects are not as good as we had hoped, we need to make some moves. I'm sick of this mediocrity.

People need to accept they will lose a decent player in the ED, none of whom will cripple the team in any way.
