Ummm, I'm not sure where your rumors come from (EK maybe), but there is no way you get a RNH level player (never mind plus) for a goalie that you have to move before expansion anyway, or you lose him for nothing. I'll wait for fans of other teams to chime in first, in case I have my oil goggles on here, but your proposal seems bad....very very bad. RNH has also just gone back into expansion talks with the team this week, rumors are long term extension at 6-6.5 per. |

Damn. That's delusional.
Good goaltenders (not top) are worth next to nothing on the trade market, since they're dime a dozen and many even hit the waivers recently.
RNH might not be the best 1rst overall pick ever, but he's still a solid 1rst line player and good all-around player. If he's indeed on the market, he will be traded for a lot.
Even if RNH is UFA this summer, the 1rst round pick would have to go from CLB to EDM, and if he stays in CLB they would have to add even more (conditional).
Try Korpi, Texier, 2nd round pick '22 (becomes 1rst round pick '22 if resigned), conditional 1rst round pick '23 (condition : CLB makes Stanley Cup final before 2023) for RNH. |

That is verrrrry delusional. RNH is worth the goalie AND the first round pick. PPG player. I think it would be RNH for Elvis and a conditional 2nd round pick (becomes a first if signed/2nd if not). |

I don't believe for a minute the Oil are looking to upgrade in net with this year in mind unless Koskinen is going the other way. The Oilers need more depth up front to provide some O to augment the 2 man show they are.

Reading comprehension does not seem to be a skill today. It is not RNH and a first. It becomes one if he leaves as a UFA. The CBJ does not have to make a trade before the expansion draft as Elvis is exempt. They can ride with both goalies next year if they want. |

RNH AND a conditional 1st for Korpisalo? You’re (frank)ing joking right? - Wildschwein
He said a conditional first if RNH does not sign an extension in Columbus, so it is one or the other but not both. If you are Edmonton and you do not think you can get an extension done with RNH then you would have to trade him for something or risk losing him for nothing. Might as well upgrade a position of need in the process with at least another year left. |

I'm also assuming one of Korpi/Elvis will need to be exposed for the Seattle expansion but that was conveniently left out while mentioning RNH's pending UFA status. |

Thanks, ignore my above comment. That would have been pertinent information to put in the blog.

Nooo...
It’s RNH for the remainder of this year AND the possibility of 1st if he opts not to stay. Edmonton stands to lose BOTH RNH and the 1st in that scenario.
What’s more, neither Korpisalo nor Merzlikins are worth RNH alone. Both are goalies that have only shown well while playing in a tight defensive system, so they are huge question marks once they leave Columbus.

Neither goalie warrants a 1st so, even under the pretense that it's Nuge OR a 1st, no bueno. |

I do not think RNH to the Jackets would be out of the question, but why trade for him? He would only marginally help us in our playoff push, as there is nothing he could do to help with the Stars' games in hand, and is available as a UFA this summer.
Any trade capital the Jackets could use to get him for the remainder of this season could be better used to help acquire prospects or draft picks as our farm system is pretty bleak at the moment.
Would RNH want to play for CBJ though? Maybe. Especially if Torts is gone. If you combine is signing with a Laine extension, selling RNH on the idea of playing alongside Laine and Bjorky would be appealing. But we would have to overpay to get him. But with our center depth and prospect pool being dreadful I would be ok with giving him crazy money.

Speaking of Bob, Edmonton could just not do anything and throw money at Chris Driedger during the off season... |

I'm going out on the fence here, liquidate all current UFA's on the team , Laine is overlay, no chance he's staying after this debacle , get that number one center through Laine.
Exactly! RNH with guaranteed extension+ Neal(retain $2.5M) + 2022 1st and 2023 2nd for Elvis + Laine |

Believe it or not, I didn't come up with it on my own:

You say this as if saying "here's another janky hockey rumor site as my source" negates the fact that the proposal is clearly biased in the Jackets' favour. |

While RNH is not capable of playing 1C, there are still many reasons why Edmonton would not make this trade. A few that instantly come to mind include:
1. Edmonton already have McDavid at 1C, and RNH is a very capable 2C.
2. Edmonton believes their window is open and RNH is essential if they hope to compete. He is far more valuable to them than another lower tier goalie.
3. Edmonton has a weakness in net, but neither Jackets goalie is a suitable starter for a competitive team.
4. RHN does not play Torts style. The Jackets don't need to waste another $6 million on Tort's doghouse.
5. RNH is highly unlikely to sign with the Jackets. As CBJ will be a seller this year, they will be looking for a players with term rather than rentals.
5. No expansion draft considerations. Due to status considerations it is possible neither Merzlinkins and RNH will not need to be protected.
This proposed deal is unsuitable to both teams and is simply a poorly considered figment of someone's imagination. It sounds like one of Eklund's ill conceived trade rumors. |

GM'S can no longer make conditions in trades on a player re-signing with a team so a conditional pick on if RNH signed with Columbus or not isn't allowed under the new CBA, don't see Edmonton trading him anyway as they're very short of legitimate top you forwards, as much as they need a goalie upgrade they also can't afford to lose RNH. |
