I just want someone on the Red Wings to cave Radko Gudas' cheapshotting face in. Givani Smith? It's GO time!

I've thought about it. Stay away from Ghost. I don't like the 2 years at 4.5 mil AAV. I know we have tons of cap space next season. He's just been so awful for 2 seasons now.

Ghost has definitely fallen off. Yes, I want to see Gudas hobbled Kathy Bates style. He and George Paros are good friends, so forget about him ever getting in trouble again. Time to pay that piper!

Ghost is intriguing. I think he gets a lot of criticism because his offensive totals aren’t what they once were. He’s not all that different than Hronek imo. The issue with Ghost is that pairing him with Hronek or Stecher is likely going to be a disaster.

Does something like this work?:

Ghost - Seider
Dekeyser - Hronek
Djoos - Stecher
Cholowski

Ghost would at least bring an offensive pulse compared to Staal, Merrill, and Nemeth without really being a downgrade defensively.

None of the D are locked up long term so he could help buy time to see what they have in McIsaac, Sebrango, Johansson, Wallander, and Viro.

Or if he clears Yzerman can work a Nielsen for Ghost deal.

Yzerman is a good GM. He’s not helping Philly get rid of a bad contract that easily.

Yeah the more I think about it the more I actually like the idea of claiming Gostisbehere.

Not like he's an amazing player or anything, but IMO he's a fine enough offensive-minded second pair D, his contract is not the best but certainly not horrible, this team needs offense badly, the cap space is there and you can get him for free.

I mean, why not?

I really think they’re looking at Taylor Hall.

I don’t hate it. I’m not thrilled with the salary, but Nemeth and Staal will both be off the books (8.7 m cap hit combined) so there’s obviously space. I’d like to keep Merrill if possible. We don’t have a bunch of D prospects that are ready quite yet. If Yzerman grabs him I’d be fine. If he doesn’t, I’ll also be fine. Wouldn’t hate getting him though

Certainly worth a shot and they will need bodies once Staal, Merrill, and Nemeth are moved.

Agreed. Not a huge loss if he’s not claimed but the offensive upside makes it more intriguing than some of the other players that have hit waivers.

Maybe he can convince them to send Ghost and a 3rd for a 5th.

To be fair I would also be fine with claiming Holden instead of Ghost, which is arguably a safer move with fewer obvious risks or apparent downsides but also infinitely more boring.

Yeah lower risk with lower reward. Let’s get some more offense.

For what it’s worth, i heard that FLA kicked the tires on the ghost earlier in the year. With Ekblad being down, the sunshine state native could well be on the radar

Ghost is a LD....Maybe they go for Tony D and Savard.
Tony D for Stralman and a 3rd
Savard for a 2nd

Wings are 1st on waiver claims. If FLA wants him, retain $1M and send him to them for a 2nd and a 6th. All those 2nd's could be traded for a quality young player at the draft!

Listen, if I were to take Ghost, there'd already be a deal to flip him to another team (FL is a good choice....they need D badly now, for sure).

He's no a crappy player, but would say he's marginally better than Staal, takes fewer penalties, probably chip in a few more goals/year than Staal. The cap hit is less than Staal, so there's a net gain $$$-wise. If he sips the bed, no skin off our collective butts. There would have to be an incentive, though. Ain't gonna take full salary for 1/2 a player in order to free up space for PHI to make a Cup run without an incentive......ain't nuthun in life that's free.

Tonight.....which set of Wings will fly?? If they play like the past 2 v CBJ, could be a really close game. If the team shows up that got their asterisks kicked 4 games ago???? fuggedaboudit. Regardless, I want to see Smith whip the ever-lovin' ship outta Gudas. He's an embarrassment to the game. Even more, though, he's going to seriously hurt someone with his bullshirt hits and cheap shots. Lord, what I would give to watch him do the ship to Glennie that he did when Tiger Williams or Probie were player. Hell, I'd sign Kocur or Darrenn Mac for tonight's game to just to have them beat his asp......severely. Guys like him...…...waste of reproductive efforts.

ANYWAY, yeah, up-n-down play for the past couple of weeks, so am curious to see which team shows. Wanna see what Cholo brings to the table, thus far hasn't been too bad, but not a highly noticeable to improvement over last year. I like what I saw of Svech & Ras, both are getting their ice-legs solidly in place, are gaining confidence and vision on the ice. Mantha's quietly become the scoring beast we knew he'd be ("beast" here is a term used to identify his position for the WINGS, not....say, Tampa....), currently sitting 3d on the team in scoring. Zadina, man what a player he's become!! His fore & back checking are SO much better than last year. He's going to be a very valuable part of the Wings core. His skating is vastly improved, that shot from the slot is brutal, his vision is incredible.

Despite taking 2 games off, there are SO many bright spots for this team. We each have opined that we want to see improvement, and it's happening before our eyes. Our G situation stinks, but no team is sitting pretty with the goalies. The thing that grinds my gears is that Griess gets ZERO run support. And really, he's a damn good G. I'd hate to see him go away, Bernie may be a decent trade-chip, but no teams are going to have $3m free for a goalie. Pickard will be left open for the expansion draft, so give him more games to let him build his resume'. Put Bernie on LTIR to heal, maybe the Crack-Heads will by-pass him and he'll be with us for another year or so. I dunno, spit-balling, I reckon.

Ok, Wings win by 1 tonight, lose by 1 Thursday. FL's in tough shape right now, Eckblad's loss is going to be huge. He's such a good dude, hated seeing him go down. being out for 12 weeks is going to seriously impact FLs ability to make the play-offs a worth-while endeavor (they's gone have a tuff time making it outta the 1st round...). I really hope he heals fully and is able to come back. Damn good dude. That being said, looks like they brought in Lamikko, not sure what he's like, but losing Eck gives their D a bit of trouble. The Wings are riding a high from the past 2 games, so it'll be tight. Of course, if Bob plays, lord only knows what will happen...…..

Couple of quick comments:

One, before you can trade a player claimed off waivers in the same season, you are required to offer him to all other teams that put in a claim. The claim-and-trade scenario only works if Detroit is the only team to put in a claim. Otherwise, he can just go straight to whatever team was next in line.

Two, Ghost is way, waaaaaay better than Staal IMO.

Technically Detroit is fourth in waiver priority, behind Buffalo, Anahiem, and Ottawa.

Buffalo doesn't have the cap space to claim him (lolololol), but the other two teams do. Not sure if they'd have an interest.
