So true.
I also don’t think this management/coaching staff are the best at putting together defensive pairings. Hughes-Tanev was one of the very few that worked. It’s easier said than done but you need two dmen who can read off of each other.
Those President’s Trophies days was probably the last time we’ve seen 2 pairings like that in the top 4, but then those guys started to decline and it’s been a mess ever since. - Nucker101
Tanev might be the only player in the league that can prop up Hughes, but we got a huge upgrade in Schmidt for only 1.5 million more than Tanev plus we gave up a 3rd round pick, for this massive upgrade.
Canucks fans get what they deserve. |

I don't think he's a good fit for Green's conservative system, I like the player though. I also recognize the fact that his last season in Vegas wasn't his best defensively.
His game was very well suited to the Knights system which is basically all about puck pressure all over the ice. - Nucker101
Fit more part of D chemistry and it was a disaster this season. |

Also playing as a unit instead of 5 individuals.
Soon the kids will learn to trust each other. Glimpse's of it offensively over the years have led to some beautiful goals. Defensively, a work in progress.
Half the defence will be gone again in another year or two though. - manvanfan
Fair so who should Canucks draft at D 1rnd-3rnd what's best? |

I don't know who is going where in which order. It's not who is best with the Canucks D anymore, it's more what's needed. Since they always pick BPA though go check my draft rankings.
It needs to be updated as I have ideas noted. Just not willing to move them around until all the ideas are being thought out.
It's difficult to move them around on here, I'd prefer to have that website back that's not around anymore. You could just slide players up and down and they would all move. It was much easier. |

Something tells me you have some bias when evaluating dmen
Like I hate Myers due to his contract but even I’d admit when he had good stretches of play. And I’m admittedly a fan of Schmidt and Hughes and will tell you that’s both struggled defensively this year
Ditto with Tanev, I liked him a lot but he didn’t look as great last season here as the year before or how he did in Calgary this year.
Like I honestly don't believe you truly think Hughes and Schmidt are as terrible as you say they are. Reminds me of how Vantel would make it seem like the Sedins were actually bad 1st line players, I don't think even he truly believed that even though he'd make it seem like they were costing the Canucks wins during their prime years lol.
Do I think Canucks fans overrate this core and put them a pedestal? Yes, but do I think these players are as bad you make them out to be? hell no lol |

Here is the thing with Schmidt and Myers, both are #4 defensemen, being paid 6 million dollars per season. One plays all-situations, is relied upon by the coach more while the other is a bit better at moving the puck and doesn't gangle as much.
Neither one of these 2 are worth the 6 million they are paid, but one of them also costs a 3rd round pick, while the other cost nothing in the way of assets.
I don't particularly like either player, but Myers at least provides some toughness on what is a very soft team, Schmidt on the other hand is a great guy for going woop-woop.
Also, I find it odd that a team would make a 6 year 36 million dollar commitment to a player, then quickly move that player 1 year later.Yes I know they wanted Pietroangelo, but it just smells bad.
I won't get into the Hughes thing at this time, as I am sure I have said enough about him for you to understand why I don't like him. |

Boucher in round 2, yay or nay? - Nucker101
Nay. Lots of decent defensemen available in rounds 2 through 6, so they need to load up on defense after getting McTavish in the 1st round. |

Actually the Canucks gave away Neely to the Bruins, and Luongo gave them the 2011 cup.

I wonder if they take powers with Dahlin being there and the need for a shutdown center like Beniers. |

Hardest draft to gage. I'm not sure if scouting departments tracking players they like will rely on their pre-2020 data more? |

Ya, Buffalo is going to pass on a # 1 defenseman. Power and Dahlin with Eichel and Reinhart and Royster, and Middlestadt and Cozens and Jack Quinn. That team is going to be good, in a year or so, maybe sooner. |
