I hope the Red Wings play since the trade deadline dosen't mean that Blashill will get another year behind the bench. |

I’ve kind of gone back and forth on where I “think” Yzerman is at. The team improved defensively and offensively (about .72 total in gf/ga). That’s a fairly impressive feat (though give full marks to goaltending as well). That being said, Yzerman has changed the “look” to a degree. Mantha in was the old big net front guy with a grinding winger and 200ft center. I think you’re looking at three strong skaters and a higher tempo now. It’s still based defensively, but getting the puck quickly down ice to set up a more aggressive attack.
Somewhere, he’s got either the exact coach or the “type’ in mind. I think Blashill will stay with the organization even if a new head coach is hired (if he wants to). We’re just about to be done with shedding veteran contracts, so the next part of this would be constructing the brains. It feels like it’s coming. I just have no clue when |

I am OK with Blash staying on. He not only improved the team's stats, but his coach's challenges as well!
This summer will be very enlightening as the Yzerplan unfolds! If there is a big splash to be made, you can bet it will be well thought out and not a reactionary move.
I can see moves to obtain a LD and of course a short term goalie. Stevie does have draft capital to spend if a younger NHLer becomes available to trade for. I would like to see him kick the tires on Nate Schmidt.
Detroit has a ways to go on this rebuild, as the NHL and Bettman are not going to gift this team a 2nd OA and a 1st OA as they did to NYR....hummmmph! |

I've come partially around on Blashill. I tend to think he's merely a below-average NHL coach, rather than a truly terrible one.
I would very much like the team to find someone better. But I'm not going to be furious if they bring him back for another year if that guy isn't available. |

My dream acquisition (not going to happen) would be if Detroit won the lottery (also won’t happen) using the first to get Chycrun or Dahlin. AZ is looking at another restart, Buffalo too. I normally wouldn’t trade first overall, but I like those two LD. Still young as well |

And that’s it, in a nutshell. There were improvements, and he’s a “league minimum” on coaching. Having the team get any forward motion with a total roster turnover is a bonus. At some point it has to become about the build and not the tear down. So, like you, that’s when I hope to see what Yzerman has in mind |

JL, are you going to do a post on Stevie's possible re-signing of his FA's, and some FA's he may target this summer? |

If anyone is interested, Veleno is skating with the team, hoping to get cleared for tomorrow’s game. He has fantastic speed, and they’re going to let him play center for the end of the year. If he goes with Zadina and Vrana, that would be the fastest full line of skaters in recent memory. Unfortunately, back checking may be an issue. Zadina has been awesome 200 ft. Vrana still having d zone troubles. If Veleno can get back quickly, Vrana could Cherry pick a bit playing 125 ft in a soft 1-4 looking for stretch passes from the d zone |

Vrana - Veleno - Zadina sounds promising, likely a lot of minutes with Larkin out now also. I'm excited to finally get a good look at Veleno, Vrana and Zadina seem to be clicking that well, imagine if this line kills it the rest of the year. Next season will be something to look forward to. |

What gives me a ton of optimism is Zadina and his 2 way game. He’s back checking like a center and can complement Vrana’s speed and attack. If Veleno can take draws and back check, let Vrana do the Phil Kessel stretch and score. Could be good |
