The "sea of Granlunds" are the dime a dozen.
Motte brings speed, forechecking and physicality. - manvanfan
Motte is like all those guys on successful teams who gets a big raise after a cup championship - on a new team. He’s our version of Jay Beagle, except without winning anything. He has one more year on his deal and then he will likely be too expensive for an “energy guy” on this team. |

I would trade him for a late 2nd in 2022 draft |

His skating stride really bothers me. - manvanfan
If you are concerned about him, then he will be a great pick. |

Just throwing this out there, if this team is 2 years away from competing, shouldn't they be trying to move on from JT and Schmidt? |

I mean, two years ago they should have known that they were 4 years away and never traded for these guys, and then looked to make a play when they were on the cusp.
All it would have taken was 15 min in here to learn it... |

I can't find any stats with Motte being a top PK guy either. Any list i find has, Myers, Sutter and Edler as the top PK guys, statistically, for the Canucks.
Although I think Motte is a decent PK guy, not sure that would make me want to protect him. - Reubenkincade
Because he tries real hard and stuff for 35 games a season. You can’t find that kind of impact just anywhere. It must be protected at all costs. |

I might of missed it but couldn’t find his name in the top 200 penalty killers in the league. You mentioned “statistically one of the best” so just wondering what stats you are using. - bloatedmosquito
That list has him as the 88th best PK forward, but their rating system doesn't make any sense
For example it has Riley Sheahan ahead of him even though Sheahan has an average of 0.164 ga/minute while Mottes is 0.095 |

He's overall a worse version of Jannik Hansen with better hands. Smart enough player but for any more money I'd drop him in a heartbeat - WhiteLie
For sure, he only has value while he's getting paid 1.5 mil or less. I'm not arguing that he's an all star by any means, but he is a better PKer than anyone else Benning has signed or picked up on waivers in the bottom 6. |

Yes and a few others, as well. Trade Horvat. |

Also I wish Aquilini could have checked in on this thread last night to see what his franchise has come to. Game against the hated Leafs, who sat a bunch of players, and the fans here are talking about old school fighters and Vancouver Voodoo while the team gets whooped
Hope those cost savings are with it - WhiteLie

Miller would be a good fit in Florida, Schmidt in Minnesota and Horvat with the Senators, although I would wait 1 more season to move on from Horvat. |

Cool. Can you find a rating system that has him as one of the best?
I get it that you like him. There’s lots to like as a person but he ain’t unique. In fact, he’s a fringe NHLer with energy. That’s it.
In my opinion, not worth protecting as that skill set can be replaced. Especially with someone who can consistently give more than 35 games per season. |

I’m with NorthNuck.
I think he’s a good 3-4th liner, at his current salary.
If he was so easy to replace, we wouldn’t have the “sea of Granlunds” situation with Mackewan, Boyd, Vessey, Highmore, Hawryluck, Virtanen, Michaeles, etc etc etc |

And that’s perfectly fine. My beef is not with you guys liking him. As I said, he’s a likeable guy. But to say he’s one of the best penalty killers in the league when he is obviously not is taking it a bit too far. As for protecting him... I just don’t see why.
But TBH there are very few players I would protect on this team. |
