Re yesterday’s article, Bilbo does not work for obvious reasons. Caufield has more in common with Messi or Maradona.

Why can't Montreal beat Edmonton? They've done well against them this season. Shut down McDavid and Draisaitl and they fold. Not saying they're necessarily the favorite, but it's defintiely doable.
- apex123

Unfortunately, the defenders and checkers are too laggard and dilatory to shut down McDavid during the playoffs.

Both Edmonton and Toronto are well suited to exploit the team's weaknesses. These potential opponents are quicker, have better gap control, are superior forecheckers, and have reliable and effective defensive systems. They also possess elite players in their prime, skilled coaches respected by the players and both teams have statistically better goalkeeping. Toronto has no significant weaknesses and Edmonton's glaring concern is a lack of depth, which will likely not be a problem in the first round.

While it is doable for the Habs to survive the first round, i suggest it remains highly unlikely we will see any playoff success.

Hains: Should He Stay of Should He Go?

When Claude Julien was fired as head coach of the Habs, Dominique Ducharme was given the job on an interim basis, after 2 months at the helm, should he stay or should he go?

- Karine Hains

good blog as usual Karine

I find a lot of people are a bit too quick in dismissing Ducharme and his potential as a head coach in the NHL. it's kind of difficult to objectively evaluate performances with such a context and short timeframe, but I guess at the end of the day in this league it's the results that really matter, even if you're dealing with very poopty and unusual circumstances. that being said I don't think automatically giving him the job if he wins a playoff round is a very sound logic either, the available candidates should still be considered, and it could make a lot of sense to bring in an experienced guy like Bob Hartley while keeping Ducharme as his assistant (I think they already know each other very well).

speaking of Bob, according to this article he wouldn't want to "steal" DD's job..:

« Je n’ai jamais été un opportuniste. Je n’ai jamais cherché pour un job. Je suis un privilégié de la vie. Je suis né sous une bonne étoile. Il me reste un an de contrat ici et je n’ai pas de bonis personnels ni de clause échappatoire. Il me restait un an avec les Lions de Zurich, Calgary et Zurich se sont arrangés. »

"Ce que je déplore dans notre business, c’est qu’il y a des gens qui veulent le job d’un autre. Je n’ai jamais voulu un job. Moi, j’ai rempli des chaises vides. Pendant qu’il y a quelqu’un en place, c’est mesquin, c’est méchant, je ne suis pas capable de vivre comme ça…"

Not sure if DD would want to be demoted back to assistant though...and i’m not firing him yet but if the results arent there, well it’s a big part of keeping your job in this league

so would other teams be willing to give him the head coach position..? I don't feel he really has that sort of leverage.

If anything playoff hockey has traditionally been an even tighter checking affair than the regular season and Montreal shut McDavid down pretty often there. I don't at all see why Edmonton is a bad match up when we have Danault to shadow McDavid. Assuming Montreal is healthy playoff time, which is a question mark to be fair, I think Montreal's better depth does just fine as it has in the regular season. Toronto is definitely a much worse match up because they have two very strong lines vs Edmonton's 2/3 of one.

In the playoffs talent aside as well as balance, paying the price along with coaching is key. Whoever is most opportunistic wins
