Please no more Elliot next year. He is simply getting too slow moving post to post. This team needs a better backup in case Hart struggles again(or gets hurt) next year. Oh, and please find a way to get out from under Voracek's contract. And last, but not least please fire the asst. coach that is responsible for this dreadful PK!!! Thanks!! Oh, one more. Please sign a guy that plays a game similar to Tom Wilson's game without all the shenanigans!! Thanks again!! |

Winter is coming for the penguins...If Hexy doesn't trade Malkin or Letang you guys are in trouble when you lose your big three not having a farm system to lean on...I would expect a bit of a drought when Crosby finally retires...so enjoy it while you have it. The Flyers have been mired in mediocrity since Pronger took the hit to the head and have not recovered. |

When Crosby retires, that team leaves PGH |

They will tank properly, get a few real draft picks, and be kicking our asses again in 5 years... |

The Penguins will get Connor Bedard or Matvei Michkov in 2023 then follow with a stud defenseman a couple years later. The Flyers will tank in 2024 and end up drafting someone named Lukus Dingus who has chronic back issues since the age of 12 then retires after 2 years.

Hmmmm and all this time none of us realized we are just a defenseman, a scorer and a backup goalie away from a Stanley Cup. - mikeyo27
The Flyers lost their chance to a proper rebuild they wasted the Hextall years doing the tweener thing.
Now look where we are. Just like the Sixers before they did their process. |

1) I am far from a homer. I am plenty critical of the team (and organizational decisions I disagree with) when I need to be. I just don't dwell on the negative 24/7/365 and I try to keep it balanced. There are some who think that unless you go all negative, all the time, every day of every season, you're a "homer."
2) There's always a link to the Postgame 5 on the Flyers' official site, which goes into detail on every game. There wasn't much to add here on HB in terms of last night's game.

100%, Frank basketball but the playoff bubble Hexy years doomed this team. |

Not that I disagree. But He is probably looking at the difference one player named Matt Niskanen made for this team. |

I will say one thing about this team, they are consistent and predictable. I stated yesterday I expected the game score to flip last night and sure enough, the Penguins win 7-3 (well almost an exact flip from the 7-2 score the game earlier). A few things stood out to me watching the game last night:
1. The Flyers really need to get more physical players on defense and in their bottom six. The unfortunate incident with the Caps and Rangers highlights the point that you need strong, physical players that punish your opponents, especially over a playoff series. With the Flyers, especially on defense, they just don't take the body and rub players out. Case in point, the game last night is 4-3 in the 3rd and the puck goes behind the Flyers net. Myers has a chance to bury the Penguin forward and take him out of the play, but instead makes a lazy play for the puck allowing the Penguin forward to get the puck, pass it to another forward, who passes to Crosby for the one timer, game over!
2. The Flyers players try hard, they played to the last second of the game. Farabee, Haag, and others had some great looks but unlike the previous game and consistent with most games this season, they missed the net and couldn't capitalize. The Flyers need to address the skill level in the off season; the Flyers have to work too hard for their goals, and its not sustainable over a season or the playoffs. The Flyers need snipers! |

Quotes not working but agree JD250. And I also believe when you say consistent, we have small consistent habits that teams have clearly picked up on. Like the damn drop passes we do. Last night Hayes did a drop back to Jake mid-ice and the Pitt dmen read it instantly and stripped Jake. Teams have picked up on our poor Tendencies. Another one (this season especially) the lack of support for break out passes from d to forwards. Teams learned if you just pressure the hell out of our d in these situation it will result in a turnover 90% of the time. |

@Claudefather
I disagree. His presence on D would be a huge help. Would it make us a contender probably not but I think I can safely say we would be much better defensively with Niskanen, our young Dmen would likely also be better with his guidance as a Vet. Our Goaltending wouldnt struggle as much as it has. I def think we could have been in the playoffs with Niskanen |
