It's not uncommon to delay contract talks with a player who's focused on a Stanley Cup winning possiblity. This Is a non story. |

If Colorado goes 7 to 8 years ? That’s a mistake for any club today to go more then 4 on any player. Look at all the upside down contracts on long term. |

You'll have to pay extra for that. One of either a conditional 4th round pick or Makar. |

Sign Landeskog for 6mil, Grubauer 5, Makar 8.
Trade Compher + Newhook/Kaut + Graves/Timmins + 1st for Jones
EJ LTIR
it could be done. |

Landeskog for $6M? Has his agent lapsed into a coma? |

Thats a lot of home town discounts to pull off. Will be some hard decisions to be made after the playoffs. Plus Seattle will drive up market on top end FA.

Sakic was asked this weeks ago and said they are focussed on the playoffs and will discuss contract extensions later. Non-story.
Months ago you said Grubauer was a weak link and if Colorado truly wanted to contend they had to upgrade their goaltending with someone like Kuemper, or even Jonathan Quick.
I noted that Grubauer didn't flop in the playoffs. He got hurt. If he stayed healthy then Colorado very easily makes the Finals and gives Tampa a run for the Cup. But looks like you're now convinced Grubauer is a legit #1. So that's good. What about MAF - is he a legit #1 or still a weak link? |

Leafs are not going for him. No $$$. As for Pitt I would not be surprised to see Freddy end up there. |

I'm pretty sure you're correct about how badly Jones wants to play in Colorado - he fell in love with hockey at the same time he fell in love with the Avs. He was in the building and reportedly his dad got him into the Avs room the last time they won the Cup. But if Sakic wants him and if he could fit him in (after what we've seen from Toronto and Tampa, does anyone really doubt it can be done?), why not wait until he's UFA? I couldn't see Joe giving up assets this summer and have no idea if he even wants him given the Avs pretty obvious bounty on the back end.
Glad to see you now recognize that Grubauer's a decent goalie. However it was more than him going down that caused the problems last playoffs. Francouz' regular season numbers were actually slightly better than Grubauer's. Though he isn't as good as Grubi he likely would have got them further in the playoffs than they ended up. |

Grubs, Landy, and any other RFA/UFA to be will remain unsigned until after the Expansion Draft allowing for greater volume of asset protection, thereafter, Grubs, Landy, and a year early extension on MacK will all be done within a week. If not sooner. |

Nah. Kadri/Donskoi/Burakovsky/Landy or some combo of players will get an off-season surgery of some kind and magically come back healthy for the playoffs. Done. |

The biggest factor to signing these contracts is the Kraken and who the Avs expose. I think they should expose Kadri IMO. Thats a 4.5 Mil guy. Or ask Johnson to Waive his no trade clause and expose him. He's a 6 million guy. The flat cap for the next few years will be helpful as well as teams won't be all that smart to go nuts on free agents. Gruby is likely the biggest UFA to sign then Landy. It won't be that hard to get these deals done I think. The problem comes on if they have enough to sign Saad when all the core guys are locked up. He's been legendary. |

Kadri is a legit 2C with good production and good analytics at 4.5 for the next 2 years. We can have a whole rhetoric battle about how he gets suspended in the playoffs but he has value - even to the Avs - and it's extremely unlikely the Avs would give him up for nothing. As just one example, think of the moves Nashville has made trying to get a 2C. They will ask Johnson to waive and he is extremely likely to do so. The Avs will likely lose one of Compher/Donskoi/Graves in the draft.

Avs will likey protect:
MacKinnon
Rantanen
Burakovsky
Makar
Girard
Toews
Graves
Johnson*
Francouz
Landeskog and Graubauer delay their extensions until after the draft. So you expose guys like Kadri, Donskoi, Compher.
If Johnson waives, then Kadri probably takes his spot.
It's actually not a horrible position assuming they delay signing Landeskog and Grubauer. Which is yet another reason why this is a non-story... |

The Idea of "If he doesn't get hurt they win the cup" is crap...
Tampa did it last year with Stamkos out for all but 10 min of 1 game, the playoffs is a war of attrition. Its a part of the grind and some teams just get the injury bug at the wrong time, it happens every year.
That being said COL is great and the fact that they have one of the best player in the league under contract at 6.3 mill for the next 2 years is insanity. I think they win the cup and frankly I'm not even convince they lose a game. |
