Elite for sure, but if any elite options come available I have to think there will be teams who'd be more aggressive with their offers than the Pens. - Rinosaur
Kuemper is definitely a top option and has a 5.5m salary and a 4.5m cap hit.
A Jarry swap would save AZ 2m in actual dollars this year. |

And if you include 18/19 Ullmark drops about 6 or 7. I just tried to keep as much of an apples to apples comparison as possible. - Feds91Stammer
Sure understand that. Just added that because if the playoffs weren't that bad for Jarry, we might not be discussing a new goalie. |

Nothing happens in a blanket, but there is a scenario where Risto could be a decent pickup. I look at him as a more physical (maybe a bit higher offensive upside) Matheson. So if you were to unload Matheson and bring in a steady LD to play with him it could be a good match.
I don't know what a deal looks like because I don't want to trade away a bunch of picks/prospects for him and you would need to move a significant contract with him.
I'd definitely trade Pettersson or Matheson for him straight up to get out from under those contracts. - MacPatty
There is 0 scenarios where a 3rd pair RD with a 5.4m cap hit would be good. |

Oh for sure but most non elite goals can potentially implode like that especially when the coach doesn’t have another option to go to for a game or two to let the guy get his poop figured out. |

Everybody is concerned about save percentage. If you give up 3 goals on 25 shots people are upset but if you give up 3 goals on 50 shots people are happy. The bottom line is you gave up 3 goals. If you team limits the shots against your percentage is always going to look bad. So what is the point? - broncohorvath
You really don't believe there is a difference in a goalie's play when he gives up 3 goals on 25 shots, an .880 save % or on 50 a .940 save %? |

I think the biggest challenge is navigating the cap to upgrade key positions. |

Is Desmith not gonna be recognized? Is his injury serious enough not to give him a chance? Why not roll with these 2, then trade for someone at the deadline if they don't pan out? - nateca444
As a starter? They gambled last season on an inexperienced goalie with some pedigree in Jarry. I wouldn't have the appetite to gamble the next on an inexperienced goalie without much pedigree.
You won't know anymore then you do now at the deadline if Jarry will fall apart in the playoffs again or if DeSmith can handle it so they can make that decision just as well now. |

I think Jarry for Kuemper makes sense for both teams. They get Jarry for one more year, save money and obviously they're not competing right now, so they shouldn't care too much. This would be a low risk/high reward move if Jarry takes positive steps forward. |

Yeah they can roll with a Hill/Jarry duo and see if one of them becomes the guy. |

That's why we're talking about GSAA and not save percentage. It factors in the quality of the chances the defense is giving up.
It says factoring in the defense, Jarry saved 8 less goals in the playoffs then an average goalie facing the same shots. |

I mean there’s a lot of options that should be better than Jarry but how many of them are significant upgrades that can do it in the postseason? I also think the elite options should be highly considered because you should expect more regression from your older players. - Feds91Stammer
Absolutely agree. I'd really like to snag Gibson. |

If you give up 3 goals on 25 shots - Probably goalies fault
If you give up 3 goals on 50 shots - Definitely teams fault
It's not rocket surgery. |

I'm glad Hextall and Burke are pumping the breaks and thinking about the future, but part of me is like why stop at this point? Why not just say (frank) it with 21 and 22?

Because it’s a cumulative thing. If they keep on the same path they will end up Detroit awful for an even longer timeframe. |
