Ty Carol interesting stuff 👍

So mining 3rd rounders has pretty much been TB’s good fortune & a lot of todays success. Sergachev for Drouin was a big help.

It helps a ton when they had 1oa Stamkos & later Hedman & a great find in Kucherov who dropped probably cuz the Russian factor. Vasy was an astute pick.

We still lack that ever elusive stud D man that many teams look for. That piece alone can separate top teams from the rest.

Don't forget, part of Tampa's great fortune is being able to negotiate contracts in a tax free state. Kinda helps with the ole cap crunch.

Do you wanna give assets we are not deep on & also allocate more to cap to forwards?

If anything it’s one or the other not both unless cap goes out in some form. The 9oa if traded has to be a shrewd win trade or keep it. The other strategy is to put off spending much on D hoping Shaw & the D 1yr older together can make significant improvement.

Our core is young and we have a decade to build up prospects. Now is the time to use some to bolster our current core for the next 5 years IMO. I all depend on cost.

9oa, LE, Schmidt add something for Garland and OEL if OEL has to be part of the deal? If not what do we add to 9 and LE for just Garland?

I like Garland but not hell bent on taking on cap to make it work. Only 1 yr left of LE.
We need RHD more than cap used for LHD. Just my opinion this isn’t the year for big moves without looking at the long term.

Thanks Carol, I wonder which is better/worse: to have been good (lucky?) enough to have aced the draft, finding players who actually make it or having nothing to show for it at the end of the day because you traded them all to other teams?

I think it’s a good sign to be able to identify qualities in young players that will likely lead to the NHL, I just wish they had the faith in their program to allow those players to actually develop and contribute to the Canucks success.

There might not be any state tax, but like in Canada, Americans pay income taxes federally, and from an accounting perspective, they only complete 50% of their employment in Florida, so I don’t think the savings are quite as high as you are suggesting. If that were the case, every NHLer playing in Canada would want to play in Alberta…

I didn't interpret that at all, in fact I would rather have both Demko and Boeser over Evans, Cirelli, and the other players that are essentially a wash.

you can make a case for Point, that every team passed on, but hey it's Benning so I can understand the hyperbole.

Point is clearly a player who should have gone in the first round, and we see Caulfield (a first rounder) now so maybe teams are more accepting of tiny players?

Never liked Virtanen from day 1. Was even worse when they traded McCann instead of that cancer JV. He f'd over McCann by being a bad influence on the guy.

Hopefully JV ends up in jail.

They asked McCann when he was drafted what he thought and his reply was "WHATEVER". I bet Jake told him to say that

Benning got the better players (Demko and Boes), but also had the much much better draft positions. Just saying since JB's biggest/only real strength is his drafting, you'd expect a guy who's been going on 8 years to be blowing people out of the water. Not passing on the guy that all the other bad drafting GMs passed on too.

But that's just what I interpreted.

Well i guess this is why we have this open board to interpret some other guys mindset when the go into a selection process. And hey, if we don't know for sure we can always interject something, helps to justify the Benning hate.

I'm having a really difficult time trying to differentiate excuses and facts, your influencer here, what is it fact or excuse.
