I like the idea of signing Suter, his dad was one hell of a player. |

He probably matches a Sutter game more than a lot of guys available in FA.
I haven't watched him play as much these days, but he was always a thorn in our sides. I can't imagine he's any worse than Gio was last year, and that for most likely less than $4m short term. |

Suter will have options. It willl be about where he wants to play and less about money. |

Suter still has value. He has a high hockey IQ, excels at using his stick to break up plays and leverages his body well to box out. His biggest drawback is that he is really slow and the opposition can blow by him on rushes up ice. |

I'm not a large fan that you write on the flames but can't spell their names correctly. Hanifin. not Hanafin. |

Dude, its an informal hockey blog and you’re worried about spelling. What if the blogger told you its Flames not flames? I doubt you would appreciate that. |

Thanks John
I’d rather the Flames sign a guy like Savard instead. Younger, more sandpaper, etc….
Suter’s uncle played for the Flames not dad. |

A little picky much bro
So if you are going to complain at least get the obvious, that he wrote the Minnesota Flames. So for being a vocabulary policeman you fail. Maybe we should start defunding you. Lol
John thank you for the blogs! |

There's not much of a chance they're going to convince Suter to move to Calgary unless they're giving him at least what Gio was making. He's going to have plenty of interest from a bunch of teams.
He probably ends up in Tampa or Colorado playing for peanuts. |

You never know. Maybe he likes spruce trees and snow more than palm trees and beaches. I feel like he would excel under Sutter.

Not going to stop bloggers from middling franchises to make their appeal

That fact you pay to be on this site... and can't capitalize Flames. |

This would be clearly dependent on a couple of things:
(1) Gio is gone
(2) He's under 3 mill. Just spit balling that number but I've seen a coupe of blogs mention the 2.5-2.75 range on a two year deal. To make it attractive to come here (lets be honest, I doubt Calgary would be first on his list) we'd need to up the ante a bit.

I think you mean his uncle was a hell of a hockey player, his dad did not play in a single NHL game. |

I don't see any way Suter comes to Calgary for anything less than 10 million over 2 years. He's still collecting a pretty decent cheque from the Wild. The Flames will need to give him substantially more money than anyone else or give him a 3 or 4 year contract. There's going to be a ton of interest. At least 8 teams are losing a top 4 defenceman in a couple of weeks.
