It looks as if Tampa's whole 3rd line may come available. Trade for Yanni, and sign Blake and Barkley and play them against all other team's 1st line! Should have a combined cap hit of less than $15M!!! |

I hate the word rebuild but what needs to be done needs to be done. With that being said if a rebuild takes longer than 5 -6 years than that is no longer a rebuild but mismanagement. Every year we see teams that were at the bottom of the standings and within 5 years challenging again, at least for a playoff spot. Detroit should be no different. The fans should not have to wait a decade to see a team again compete for a playoff spot. The time is now to start competing again. |

I think we’ll be competing for playoff spots way before that. But to be an honest “contender” is a completely different ball of wax. Right now Toronto is still trying to win one round with a ton more offensive talent than we’ve got. Edmonton as well. Once we start vying for a spot in the division, you’re against Tampa, Florida, Carolina and Toronto. All will be tough to get past, so it will be part Detroit progressing and another team regressing. That’s the uphill battle |

You never know what could happen, sure. Not sure Yzerman would import that whole line, but I’ll never say never again… |

I can’t be attached to anything while missing the playoffs so miserably every year. Give Detroit a team it can be proud of at any cost (everyone is expendable). And please, hurry up. |

So we know Yzerman wants a couple lefty defensemen at free agency. Should Suter be considered? The closest thing they have to a real veteran back there is DK. Maybe 2M for 1 or 2 years wouldn't be the worst money spent. |

I have to think Suter wants a real shot to win. If he came to Detroit it would probably be a deadline flip. Not sure he wants to move around too much. All just my speculation at this point |

Remember when everyone assumed both Suter & Parise would sign with Detroit? Filp & Stuart were gone. Lidstrom retired, and they still had Pav & Hank and a pretty good core of young players, who at the time, looked like they were going to be very good players. Detroit may have actually been a contender for a while if both had signed. Instead, they quickly fell apart and hit rock bottom.

I remember Kenny put together a good deal for Suter. MN just went nuts to get both. I would have loved to see what it could have been like. Time flew by quickly and it hasn’t been kind |
