Calgary Is a long way from winning so what difference does It make If Giordano stays or leaves? He's 37, His days are numbered In the NHL. Why would Hyman want to sign with Calgary? |

Players accepting team friendly deals because someone traded for their rights isn't a thing that happens. The only way that works is if you trade for their rights and give them exactly what they want. |

The Flames have all the right pieces to compete this year. They just need to make sure all those pieces are playing to their potential. Sutter's a pretty good guy at getting the best out of his players at least for a couple of years. Combine that with the fact that the most important players on the team need a great year to get the huge contracts and there's a pretty good chance the Flames are in contention for winning the division this year.
That being said, I wouldn't give up anything more than Pettersen to get the Kraken to take Kylington.

What? In contention to win the division this year? You know they play in the Pacific right, not the North anymore. They have to finish ahead of Vegas and Edmonton to win their division. Neither of which is happening. |

Obviously, they're not going to be the preseason favourites, but the preseason predictions are always wrong.
Tkachuk, Gaudreau, Mangiapane, Dube, Markstrom, Andersson, Dube, Valimaki, Giordano, and Monahan were all various degrees of disappointing last year. If most of those guys are better this year than last year and Hanifin, Tanev, and Lindholm are as good as they were last year, they have a great shot at winning the division. It's also not that crazy to see them all improve now that they have a decent coach.
Zary and Pelletier also have a shot at playing a role this year. Losing Gio could actually be a boon for the Flames if Treliving can use that cap space properly, but unfortunately, he's usually awful when he has money to spend.

Not Edmonton lol
Replace Barrie with Keith wow, lookout!
Calgary was 2nd overall the last full NHL season...they had a really bad season but you could tell Sutter was starting to get through to them. Really all it will take is a bounce back from Markstrom and they are in the convo let alone what else they do.

And RNH, Neal, Yamamoto, Ennis, Koskinen, Russell, Haas, Jones, Klefbom, and Turris were various degrees of disappointing, as any team can produce that same list. If most of those guys are better Calgary is still behind from last year. Then if McDavid, LD, and Nurse are as good as they were last year they have a great shot at minimalizing Calgary's potential improvement in the division.
Bouchard and McLeod also have a shot at playing a role this year. Losing Benson could be a lose to the minor league team but no affect to NHL squad. Losing barrie could actually be a boon for the Oilers since he doesn't know defence, especially if Holland could build a team from scratch instead of inherenting a successful one. |

Keith is replacing the rotation they had at LD2 not Barrie as rd3/pp1. Nurse will take over PP1 while either Bouchard takes on 2RD and PP1 or just 2RD.
Top 4 of:
Nurse - Bear
Keith (ewww) - Bouchard
Or
Nurse - Bear
Keith (ewww) - Larsson
Russell (????) - Bouchard
The last NHL full season was 2 full seasons ago. None of these guys are in the same shape or form. Or age. Both teams had different agendas at that time. If you think the flames or Oilers are in the same place they were the last time a regular season occurred you've spent too much time celebrating stampede my friend. World and teams are in a different place. |

What point are you trying to make? It's pretty clear that the Flames and Oilers are in similar positions. They both have the pieces to be successful, but they need things to go right. The Oilers would've been right there with the Flames last year without Vezina calibre goaltending from Smith last year. Are you expecting a repeat of that?

Kinda my thoughts as well. Koskinen just wont cut it & their big chance was to dump him over to Chicago in that Keith deal. Now they have to get a top 6 fwd, top 4 D & a 1A goalie & the cap space just aint there. I guess in a parity league there is a reason they play the games. |

Keith and Bouchard > Barrie and Jones. Koskinen will most likely bought out and Klefbom put on the ltir giving the oilers about 17 mil in cap space. The cap space is there. |

Max you go on Hyman is 5x5, you could justify giving him more dollars or term if he played a premium position but that’s not the case. If he doesn’t like us enough to take that we’d be better off perusing a lesser FA like armia.
I wouldn’t pay anything to protect Gio but if you were to it would only make sense to send to seattle whatever you think you could get for him at the deadline if we’re out of a playoff spot. |

Flames are in no position to spend 5x5 on Hyman. He's 29, making him near the top of his game and slowly trending down. This team isn't good enough to waste cap on a 15 goal scorer, hard pass.
There should be NOTHING sent to Seattle to protect Gio, he's 37 for fs, screw the loyalty. Flames have won one playoff round with him as captain, and he sat that one out with an injury. Time to make a leadership change, the old ones not working. Let's use Gio's cap space in other places.

That sounds like an awesome plan, buyout Neal, buyout Koksgoin, buyout Kassian. This is one of those hidden stratigies that most GM's seldom use, takes a genius like Holland to take advantage of it. |

Did I miss something? Larson resign? I'm hearing he's done in Edmonton and is leaning towards the Canucks.
Expecting Bouchard to play top 4 when he couldn't crack the lineup last year is a bit of a stretch. Holland continues to handcuff the team, hope he's there for another few years. |

Lol at these Oilers fans trying to convince themselves 38 year old Keith is somehow better than Barrie. Yeah put Bear in the top 4. |

I could see Gio going to NYR for their 2022 2nd and Buffalo 2021 3rd. NYR Needs to make the playoffs this year and beyond Lindgren then have dearth on that LD side save for rookies |
