Ghost, a 2nd and a 7th for nothing? Is this real? If it is, how many Flyers fans are bowing to this next move? This…this was Ghost’s value? - SuperSchennBros
I think his value went up from 2 years ago. It was Ghost, a 2nd and a 4th for nothing.
Flyers caught a break on this one. |

It’s not a good trade….but they couldn’t even lose him on waivers. Not surprised at all they had to add to rid themselves of him. As another pointed out you can just imagine what Jake contract would cost the Flyer to get rid of. But, and this is a big but, it may be a prelude to what else Fletcher is working on. I’ve been saying for awhile Fletch would do some things that wouldn’t be very popular…case in point. Bye, bye Ghost. - landros 2
I don't think this move will be unpopular, the Flyers need cap space in order to do something, and Ghost was a disaster of the defenseman, so its the best CF could do under the circumstances, and I think he did fine. The draft picks are a low cost compared to the cap space gained. Now he has to do something with the money. |

In his press conference, Fletcher said one team ask for York in order to take Gostisbehere and others wanted the 13th pick to take him. This was the best deal, no money retained. The new flat cap world is tough.

Fletcher on more potential activity, including the free agency period: "I do expect we’ll have a better team at this time next Wednesday and that’s exciting."

So another justification for this trade is that the Flyers can easily acquire another 2nd round 2022 pick between now and then?
So let me get this straight. The Dave Scott Flyers, who are clearly back to business as usual going all in every year, is going to sell assets at the TDL next season to get that 2022 2nd rounder back?
Laughable. Unless the Flyers are mathematically eliminated from the playoffs at next season's trade deadline, there is zero point zero chance of any kind of selling. |

Goes to show two things…
Nolan Patrick and Phil Myers had more value than Ghost, so I’m sure we made that Ellis move, which now looks like we went Nolan Patrick, Phil Myers, Shayne Gostisbehere, a 2nd and a 4th for Ryan Ellis. It’s not the exact transaction but basically what’s come from the passed few days. |

who would you want from Detroit if they were interested in Jake? I see a fit there... not just style of play/type of player but them being able to take on a cap hit like his... |

I don't think the move can really be judged until the offseason is over. With this move they really only gained 910k in cap space because they took on Ellis' contract too. But there is probably more happening so we need to let it all play out. To judge everything right now is foolish until after the draft and free agency is all done and we are getting ready for the season. |

That Fletcher drives a hard bargain! He has to say something like this to save face. Make it look like teams asked for something outlandish, so giving a way a second round pick in comparison looks palatable. |

Well than if you can’t move him, don’t move him. A second is a high price to move a guy who’s deal wasn’t that terrible. Even Umberger made it further. |

Its not Ghost value, its the value of moving cap with term on it. NYI did the exact same thing and it cost them two 2nds and a 3rd. Others had posted that other teams wanted our 1st and/or York.
Its all going to depend on what the space is used for. I have no issues with the move. If the Flyers need to, they can try and acquire another 2nd before the 2022 draft.

Your one of those guys that is going to female dog next year, even if the Flyers were to win a cup, because we traded a 2022 2nd rounder and didn't get one back.
i get it. they lost a 2nd rounder to move money. But isn't the part of sport to actually compete every year and try to win? |

sarcasm -- a lemming used the 9M over two years to make the trade look better in their eyes - corduroy
Lemming? Haha, far from it my man. I don't post very often because I've been branded as a member of team negative. If you think I like this move strictly because I'm the type of guy that defends everything the Flyers do then you're waaaay off base.
I saw your other post. Gave up 3 assets hunh? I guess a 7th round pick is technically an asset... The fact that they had to attached assets to Ghost at $4.5M for the next two years, by definition means he is not an asset. So it's a 2nd round pick for the cap space to try an d improve the team now. I'm good with that. |

My question is whether it was a quick pull?
IF it's not space for an immediate move and just for deals on RFA's or buffer then he may have been able to watch to see if team's get more desperate as they are shut out of free agency....or even into camps and inevitable injuries occur and people need backfills.
A second is pretty steep a price for a guy whose underlying metrics weren't horrendous.

The only players the Flyers really have had a hit on in the 2nd round in the last 2 decades+ is Allison and Hart. Hart is a little different because he was the top ranked goalie in his draft year so that was almost a no brainer pick considering our goalie struggles. Do you count Hagg and Aube Kubel as hitting in the 2nd round? I dont because they are riding the Cote suite often times and are nothing more than a bottom of the roster type of player.
But of course, the 2nd for next year that we traded to get rid of a bad player is going to become the next McDavid or something |

This is how it is going to play out (The Randy Jones Cycle):
- Ghost sucks as a Flyer
- Ghost ends up scoring like 12 points in the first 10 games with Arizona
- People start yelling how elite he is and how he was misused here
- Charts start getting posted about how good he is because Kessel shoots the puck a lot
- Finally his contract expires and he signs an AHL deal for 1 year
- Then Ghost fades into the abyss of retirement without anyone noticing
The End |

You were adamant about the “wait and see” approach for Seattle, but you won’t apply that to the Flyers? - Flyers1218
Not really sure where you're seeing an analog between a team that just took its first steps from a completely blank canvas and a team that was put in a position to be capped out while uncompetitive, needing to burn assets to gain wriggle room just to improve.

No. Just calling out poor asset management when I see it. If the Flyers go all in and win the cup obviously it will be worth it. But this team isn't close to contending and much closer to being a cap team that isn't a true contender. |

The Flyers still need a 2D and a 2nd goalie. Teams still have players with cap/term that they need to move. Is it such a big stretch to imagine that these teams will also be willing to give up draft picks to move these players? |
