Your complaining about a 2022 2nd rounder being moved before the 2021-2022 season is played? - J35Bacher

That Fletcher drives a hard bargain! He has to say something like this to save face. Make it look like teams asked for something outlandish, so giving a way a second round pick in comparison looks palatable. - PLindbergh31
Ya, well I'm not crying over a 2nd round pick, like I said, we have enough picks, we need players that can play. |

My question is whether it was a quick pull?
IF it's not space for an immediate move and just for deals on RFA's or buffer then he may have been able to watch to see if team's get more desperate as they are shut out of free agency....or even into camps and inevitable injuries occur and people need backfills.
A second is pretty steep a price for a guy whose underlying metrics weren't horrendous. - juiced
Sometimes being first isn't bad. Maybe he waits and then AZ goes a different way and your stuck. I am just saying I can't complain about a 2022 pick before the 2021 offseason is done |

Goes to show two things…
Nolan Patrick and Phil Myers had more value than Ghost, so I’m sure we made that Ellis move, which now looks like we went Nolan Patrick, Phil Myers, Shayne Gostisbehere, a 2nd and a 4th for Ryan Ellis. It’s not the exact transaction but basically what’s come from the passed few days. - SuperSchennBros
I don't think you can look at that way. Ellis is here without the Ghost move. The Ghost money will be used on a future asset. So, whatever that asset or portion of that asset will be for Ghost, 2nd and 7th.
Can't draw a conclusion on the Ghost trade yet.

Not really sure where you're seeing an analog between a team that just took its first steps from a completely blank canvas and a team that was put in a position to be capped out while uncompetitive, needing to burn assets to gain wriggle room just to improve. - Tomahawk
Lets see what he does with the cap space. It probably will be something that doesn't move the needle, won't have to wait long. |

When we look back at how deep the 2022 draft was, some of the star players taken in the 2nd-round, I hope you all will remember this moment when you said you were happy with this trade. - Tomahawk
Arguing in hindsight about 2021 in 2025 - can't wait! |

When Fletcher was hired as GM, weren't you the loudest one yelling how he is going to trade all the 1st round picks and prospects?
Have you gotten anything right yet?

Completely understand.....but remember the Gustafson thing? This place went nuts that if we had just waited a week or two we could have gotten x, y or Z. I would not be shocked if it's Deja vu all over.

Again, nothing can really be evaluated until the offseason is done. I still see moves being made to transform this roster. |

Just playing devils advocate...who had the Canadiens going to the cup final this year?
As much as people seem to love the Flyers failing, we don't know what will happen until we see the team play. |

They traded Ghost and two draft picks for absolutely nothing.
Unless we’re getting a young elite player like Seth Jones or Jack Eichel or both, what’s the next best thing that could possibly happen? Whatever Fletcher has coming, it better be titanic! |

who would you want from Detroit if they were interested in Jake? I see a fit there... not just style of play/type of player but them being able to take on a cap hit like his... - black_francis

Fletcher can overpay a middling veteran. The odds of that are basically zero though. |

I think that it is only partially true to even it out. Meaning that Ellis salary is more than the combined salaries of Patrick and Myers so some, not all, of this Ghost trade corrected the cap dollars.
It’s will be easier to look at the whole swap after all the moves are done. |

So another justification for this trade is that the Flyers can easily acquire another 2nd round 2022 pick between now and then?
So let me get this straight. The Dave Scott Flyers, who are clearly back to business as usual going all in every year, is going to sell assets at the TDL next season to get that 2022 2nd rounder back?
Laughable. Unless the Flyers are mathematically eliminated from the playoffs at next season's trade deadline, there is zero point zero chance of any kind of selling. - StepfordSam
The justification is that this is the cost of dumping contracts. No less, no more. I don’t think anyone is jumping for joy that they just traded a player and picks for literally nothing but cap space.
The hope is that they use this money wisely. They blow that chance, cry away. |
