Fletcher on more potential activity, including the free agency period: "I do expect we’ll have a better team at this time next Wednesday and that’s exciting."
Wonder who he picks up - Richieattack18
Given the 13th pick, no matter who it is, will not be NHL-ready, Fletch MUST deal the pick for a stud NHL player in order for the Flyers to “have a better team at this time next week.”

You think the only way to improve our team is by moving that pick? I dont think that is true. |

So we can't have any idea of what will happen about something until it has actually happened, eh? No likelihoods, no odds, no guesses, no foresight? - PT21
You can. You can say you would have prefered to keep it but you ca't act like this one move just doomed the franchise for years to come. We have no clue how the rest of today and the next season will play out.
I am just saying give Fletcher time to see what happens.
For all the doom and gloom of Fletcher trading every top prospect and every top pick to make the team better.......he still hasn't done that. |

They traded Ghost and two draft picks for absolutely nothing.
Unless we’re getting a young elite player like Seth Jones or Jack Eichel or both, what’s the next best thing that could possibly happen? Whatever Fletcher has coming, it better be titanic! - SuperSchennBros
They traded Ghost for $4.5 million cap space. I'm not a Fletcher fan but let's wait until we know how the money is spent. |

The Flyers still need a 2D and a 2nd goalie. Teams still have players with cap/term that they need to move. Is it such a big stretch to imagine that these teams will also be willing to give up draft picks to move these players? - Dkos
Flyers will get the 2nd pairing D and/or backup goalie who can't be moved because of cap reasons and so a sweetener like a 2nd would be thrown in our favor? That will almost certainly not happen, b/c we don't have the cap space to absorb someone else's onerous contract.
And the fact that they are going to be moved means they are not worth contract now, so taking them would mean you going against the win-now mode you see going on.
So, yes, I am afraid it is likely a big stretch. |

My question is whether it was a quick pull?
IF it's not space for an immediate move and just for deals on RFA's or buffer then he may have been able to watch to see if team's get more desperate as they are shut out of free agency....or even into camps and inevitable injuries occur and people need backfills.
A second is pretty steep a price for a guy whose underlying metrics weren't horrendous. - juiced

What asset are the all-in to win now Flyers giving up to get a second round pick? - StepfordSam
Dunno its going to depend on how we do and any other changes Fletcher decides to make. Its a new year with a new cap situation. If we suck we probably sell off some UFAs. Price is going to depend on the market of course.
Maybe we decide to move down the draft
or Maybe there is just an opportunity to move someone in a hockey trade during the offseason

In: Top pair d-man, 4.5 million in cap space.
Out: our worst dman, our worst forward, 3rd pair dman. a 2nd, a 7th.
Could be worse, and we still have our #1 pick for the upcoming draft.

The op has long been critical of team following a corporate mandate rather than a hockey one.
He doesn't think team is near contention, believes moves like this one are to create false illusion team can be a contender this season, and in doing so, giving up future assets in a deep draft is short-changing future.
All I am gently trying to say he is that he is not reflexively negative. There is some rationale for his position.

You don’t? The Ryan Ellis deal itself is a big deal. It’s a “we’re going for it” type of deal. When a Gm is giving up draft capital and youth, it better be because he believes he can build a contender this summer or within the next year. |

Do you believe any portion of it was an investment to correct the consistency issues and backslides of Provy and Sanheim? honestly?

See, the fixation of Patrick and Myers’ seasons last year is so weird to me. Both are young. Both have proven they can do better. It’s like nobody here has learned their lesson. Every year a former Flyers wins a cup it seems. |

By this logic Ghost (less than zero value around the league) a 2nd and a 7th is equal to a Jones or Eichel?
