I don't see any other options for Fletcher. He has to package the 13th pick with JVR and hopefully entice a team to take it, so he can then have room to sign 1 or 2 FAs. Otherwise, he has no way of remaking this team. Maybe trade Ghost for 4th/5th round pick possibly. But his hands are tied, which Sucks! - jd250
i'd rather they didn't trade 13 and jvr for cap space. but it seems like the pick could be in play based on some of the comments he made. |

It's the 13th. Arizona pick was forfeited. - bmeltzer
And I would give Fletcher an F grade if he is picking at 13, that pick is our only real asset at this point that I can see that he can trade.
Cole Sillinger: His wrist shot release is especially potent, with a short draw, feet pointed at the net, adequate knee-bend, a hip-snap, his leg kicked back, and exploding from his chest. It’s a sight to behold. Sillinger makes the best of this shot with some stellar off of the puck instincts, an often overpowering wall game, and a penchant for driving the centre lane of the offensive zone. -EliteProspects 2021 NHL Draft Guide |

Not as ridiculous as thinking that every team is going to send their newly drafted players through a magic portal, roll the dice and hope RNG is on their side. This is why players get scouted, otherwise teams would pull names out of a hat. - Glak18
Is the magic portal an option?

I stated it yesterday and I will state it again, I think Seattle got off to a great start. They got 2 really good goalies and 5 good defenseman. They are thin at forward but they have the number 2 overall pick and I am sure will make trades between now and training camp. But what Francis did yesterday was smart, he avoided taking on big contracts and older players for the most part, and thus has good flexibility. It was a nice start. Obviously as a Flyers fan I am pissed off, but I have to acknowledge Francis did a nice job overall. - jd250
Not an Oleksiak fan as more than a number 4 (prefer as a No. 5). Not wild about Larsson on a top pair. Giordano is a good first captain. Dunn has a lot of talent but consistency issues. Forwards are meh at best. Goalies are decent. Second overall pick -- whether Benders, Eklund or whoever -- won't be an NHL impact player off the bat. I will reserve judgment on Francis' offseason until late summer to see what else they add but team right now is at or near the bottom. |

3. I disagree with you about Giardano. They took on a long term commitment to Oleksiak as a UFA signing. They have Lauzon, Dunn, and a couple of other guys as well on the LD side. Giardano does not fit the value profile of the guys they selected (he is much older, former superstar, maxed out). I believe he will not stay long in Seattle and Oleksiak will be their 1LD going ahead. - PT21
Flying Gio out there to be one of the faces of the franchise seems to indicate that they'll keep him around for a bit.
Dunn and Lauzon smell like flips.

I was unaware of that. What do you mean "face of the franchise"? He is a Norris guy, but hardly a flashy, fan drawing type. Also I understand he is now starting to show his age?
Maybe they have an extension worked out for him that is very reasonable. But for the life of me I don't understand why they would sign Oleksiak then to that contract as an UFA. That's probably what he gets in the market today from any other team. |

They put him on stage and everything. He's probably primarily there to serve as the root of team culture and to... your favorite... nanny. Liaison to the community, too. And to take the hard minutes for a couple of seasons. |

Mock Draft posted
https://www.nhl.com/flyer...elphia-flyers/c-325733268 - bmeltzer
Great job Bill. I always enjoy a good Mock Draft. Sillinger would be nice but I suspect he'll be gone by the time the Flyers make their selection (barring a trade).
I really like Brandt Clarke. I'd love to see the Flyers move up to draft him depending on the price. Maybe we can develop our own Erik Karlsson. Clarke is more responsible defensively and more physical. Loves playing hockey and is very creative. |

Bill I think that is what a lot of people thought of Vegas too. I don't discount the underdog mentality of a new team where guys are getting their first shot at getting more than a cup of coffee. I think this team can compete...not the star power, but I don't think they are going to be bad and with a couple of more moves, I would not be surprised if they get the team to gel, they compete for a playoff spot...if the fans are anything like they are for the Seahawks, it will be a tough place to play... |

Weird looking nanny.
The only ways I can make sense of the Oleksiak signing then are:
1. There will be more market value signings via trade/UFA, at least on D. Oleksiak is the tip of the iceberg.
2. Ultra-cynical, based on what Bill says about JO and the Gourde surgery (which I did not know about): they are taking on some guys who will drag the team down when playing positions and mins which are above their talent grade.
3. Just a salary floor move, with not huge downside.
