Oh, the only thing that could mess with that is the Delta variant. They don't have to worry about turning a profit. - PT21
Are we now at a point where we also figure in pandemic financials along with nanny state bailout money into the business model? |

Not an Oleksiak fan as more than a number 4 (prefer as a No. 5). Not wild about Larsson on a top pair. Giordano is a good first captain. Dunn has a lot of talent but consistency issues. Forwards are meh at best. Goalies are decent. Second overall pick -- whether Benders, Eklund or whoever -- won't be an NHL impact player off the bat. I will reserve judgment on Francis' offseason until late summer to see what else they add but team right now is at or near the bottom. - bmeltzer
This is exactly how many of us felt last night. Obviously chastised by the usual suspects. I wasnt criticizing the team they will be in October, but rather simply criticizing the team they picked. I didn’t like their strategy. Francis was so salary cap obsessed and risk averse that he actually forgot to draft good players.
Which had me wondering about their ownership and if they were going to be cheap after paying a good price to get into the league. Full disclosure, I don’t know anything about them other then Jerry Bruckheimer. |

3. I disagree with you about Giardano. They took on a long term commitment to Oleksiak as a UFA signing. They have Lauzon, Dunn, and a couple of other guys as well on the LD side. Giardano does not fit the value profile of the guys they selected (he is much older, former superstar, maxed out). I believe he will not stay long in Seattle and Oleksiak will be their 1LD going ahead.
. - PT21
Not sure what you're disagreeing with Bill about. Read what he posted. All he said was that it seems not likely that Giordano will be immediately flipped to the Rangers as had been rumored. He did not state that Giordano will finish out the year in Seattle. I would Bill has some contacts and has some info on the situation.

I think retaining salary/taking back a similar salary was always going to be the path with Voracek. - MBFlyerfan
they need to find a 3rd team to off lay cap |

Jake /Jvr/ghost all have value of salary retained. If 50% retained that would give fletch much leverage. Teams looking for those type player would certainly be teams that believe they are contenders now. Getting a Jake at 4 mil or Jvr at 3.5 or ghost at 2.25 is very valuable. If fletch can retain the salary he would open roughly 9 mil over next 2/3 years and could use that to make a move or 2 and use his current 9 mil to sign his rfa’s.
I’d love for him to retain the salary and gain as much draft capital as possible or a combo of draft capital/ very young higher end prospects. - Stayin alive
What kind of return can you expect from a team when you are telling them this guy is not worth what we signed them for? Do you really think that the Flyers will get a top prospect, high pick, or a top 6 forward for any of those players? |

Unlike he who shall not be mentioned again, Sillinger seems willing to center lane drive and go to the net.
But yeah... it would be nice to see them go off-type in a draft like this.

Don’t buy it. All reports said Chuck and Voracek had a very friendly meeting and both welcomed a trade, and also were ok if he stayed in Philly. |

I believe he is assuming that they are a money printing machine only stoppable by a large-scale shutdown brought on by the spread of the Delta variant. |

That Foerster pick last year or the year before I was a fan of, shoot first type of guy. Are there any shoot first guys in our range? Or a high skill guy? |

Pitlick will never lead the league in scoring, but he has a great compete level and I thought his energy helped the Flyers. I wouldn't mind seeing him as a Flyer again, but the price and term must be right. |

Lucius declared himself the best goal scorer in the draft.
Most everybody else says it's Coronato.
Both players are realistic options at #13.

Well their arena is named Climate Pledge Arena and they claim it's "the most progressive, responsible, and sustainable arena in the world". So there's that. |

Of course.
The Olympics this year would be more profitable if they cancelled because of pandemic insurance. Wimbledon last year was very profitable: because it was the only large sporting event I am aware of that had pandemic insurance and was cancelled.
Going forward, everyone will have pandemic insurance. |

Almost every player isn’t worth what they sign for especially when signing these long deals at age 27-28-29 -30 years old. You know the player isn’t going to hold value toward end of the deal almost 100% of the time. ( reason I want coots moved)
However that doesn’t mean the player doesn’t have value. For example Jake. Horrible at 8+ mil. No one trading for that or signing him for that at this stage.
But Jake at 4 mil? 60-70 point player. If he was a free agent teams would be lining up for him at 4mil. That’s a steal at 4 mil. In today’s market 60-70 point player would get him what 5-6 mil
And same principle for Jvr/ghost. No one paying Jvr 7 mil but 3.5 is an absolute steal.
If you’re a team like say Colorado and they lose landy and want to replace him obviously gotta go Fa market. They can’t /won’t spend huge on Fa where do they go? Jake/Jvr at 50% retained becomes HUGE option. Many teams will be in this position. Happens every year. Colorado only a quick example
So what do they offer? Would they care about giving up some young higher end prospect? Probably not. Or draft capital? Probably not. |
