How tf did they decide on Geekie from Carolina over Jake Bean. Making stupid choices right out the gate. |

Meh, they just made their first trade. I suspect the opening day roster looks nothing like the team as it stands today. |

I love Yanni, but I don't think he has the skill on his own to be a to 6 option, they'll need to surround him with some skilled wingers in order to get proper value out of him....when he returns from his injury that is.... |

Centers- particularly young ones- have exaggerated value for an expansion team and Geekie has a track record of scoring at lower levels. Meanwhile, they seem to highly value the ability to defend and suppress chances at even strength. Bean likely didn't fit that mold very well. |

Im not dissapointed like most. They can clearly wraponize and use cap space to their advantage. They have a lot of young pieces to work with and some good potential still.
This was just step one. Am betting there’s more than just Pitlick and Gio possibly on the move here too. Plus UFA signings.
So want the home jersey too. And the golf shirt |

add 2 or 3 of ;
Krejci
Stastny
Tatar
Armia
foligno
Danault
Landeskog
Draft Beneirs
and all of a sudden their forwards look a lot better.

Yea cause Tyler Pitlick for a 4th rd pick is a great use of free players.
Or what should have been more than free players.
All they had to do was say. Give me a 2nd rd pick to not take a player this year or next year.
Gurantee over half the teams bite.
They have 16 2nd rd picks over the next two years.
They took a career AHL player from Philly instead of taking ghost for a 2nd.
Francis is already the worst GM in the NHL. |

Absolutely agree. Francis had a one time chance to properly & systematically extort extra picks & players. Treliving would have easily given up Kyllington a prospect like Ruzicka & a 3rd to avoid Gio & he probably could of got that & signed D Ryan. If he hoarded huge amounts of 2nds, he could probably parlay a couple 2nds & a 3rd into a 1st rounder. He literally did nothing. Not impressed with Francis at this point.
The only thing I do like is the UFA signings & some picks on the blue line. He has some big boys back there that can clear the front of the net. Wish Flames could score one of those guys. |

They need to start “weaponizing capspace” so far AZ is ahead |

Getting late 20 year old UFAs with a year left instead of controllable Yonge assets with far more value is the biggest weakness of this expansion. Blackwell pitlick MacDermot and jankrok would never return more value then the players left on the table. Guathier fisher lezotte and trenon would hold more value for longer or could actually be apart of a competitive team in 4 years |

At first glance, the new Kraken roster looks underwhelming. And in conventional terms, it is underwhelming. The forward corps is weak and the goaltending is inexperienced and largely unproven. The defense is good, but not good enough to make up for the other shortcomings.
However, the Kraken are making it rain with cap space. Cap is the most valuable commodity in today's NHL. It's more valuable than picks or prospects. The Kraken have the most cap space of any team, by a large margin. Make no mistake, that cap space was the true goal - icing a roster while barely flirting with the cap floor. Now, other teams will come knocking looking for relief and Francis will be waiting with the lube in hand.
Also, echo what the other Lightning fan said above - don't get too high Gourde. He's a fine bottom-six guy and Tampa will miss him, but he's not top line material unless he starts producing at rates like he never has before. He's a quality add, but he's not going to light up the world unless he's surrounded by quality linemates. |

Detroit has about the same amount of cap space, depending which RFAs they qualify. And Yzerman is considerably smarter than Ronnee Frances. |

I’d have taken Palat myself but I think Frances was hung up on getting a C.

I despise the NHL for the way they have let Vegas and Seattle into the league vs. the old way of building from the ground up. It’s BS. I said what I said. |

Yzerman is definitely better than Francis. It's not even close.

I'm thankful they didn't take Palat. Gourde gives Tampa more cap relief, and Palat is a favorite of mine.
