For the Sabres to draft Wright next year they have to be a lottery team next season.

So how will Dahlin, Cozens and Mitts continue to improve while the team loses, then how will adding an 18 year old to a 23 man roster provide enough impact to make the jump to contending status?

The only way your scenario plays out properly is if the Sabres received a 22 unprotected 1st with no conditions to move to 23 and that team bombs next year.

At the same time the Sabres have to become playoff bubble quality at a minimum this season.

You get a chance at 3 franchise players buffalo is going to handle this rebuild better
- gerbe75pts

There’s an entire season to play before that scenario even plays out.

What bridges will be burned this coming season?

It’s going to get worse before better, can the Pegulas be patient this time?

How and why should we expect, Dahlin/Cozens/Mitts to endure a tank year and positively react, still improve differently than 55/23/9?

I believe this grey area which is out of their control is where they will fail this time. This is way to similar to what they just tried, how do you turn around a culture and request pride while you purposely try to fail? Maybe the Sabres should hire some federal government lobbyists, isn’t that process their bread n butter?

Good to know an entire organizations direction is and was dependent on the emotional maturity of a young 20 year old.

I do not trust the Sabres management team to fix this, hope is for the birds.

Eventually at some point, can you reveal this incredible plan ? Even if it's like 10 years from now ?

The 'incredible plan' at least partly involved signing Gabriel Landeskog, which is humorous because why the hell would he sign with the Sabres?

Do we forget that Ralph Wilson was blamed countlessly for being cheap?

Do we forget that Beane and McDermott cleaned house and cut good players that weren’t living up to their end of the bargain?

It’s time to cut bait sadly. I can’t blame Eichel and Reinhart for not wanting to be here either.

A few questions :

Could he be traded for or no (did he have a No Movement Clause ?)

Is he even that good ? I mean, is he "incredible" ?

Come to think of it, is Eichel even that great ? It's been bugging me for a while. Is Eichel even that good ? (already preparing myself for when he's gone and I can then say "Meh, he wasn't even that great anyway" to make me feel better).

Exactly. F them in the a.

Personally, when Baene and McDermott showed up and immediately started preaching about Culture all the time, I said "who are these clowns? Culture/smulture...just get good players and we should win games".
Well those guys proved me wrong with the Bills, and maybe what KA is now preaching is exactly what the Sabres need. The team sucked royal ass with Jack, Sam, Ror, Kane and Risto. I'm looking forward to building around a new core, for sure.

Alot of these posters do not remember the Bill's futility...they may go back to the Super Bowl years, and that is it for many. So no, they don't remember how long Wilson was a terrible owner. When Polian came on board, it began the resurrection.

As for Landy signing here...how would they have fit his contract in; with now having to pay Ullmark, Dahlin, Joker, McCabe and others. Were the Sabres 1 player away from say Tampa, Toronto, etc. That "plan" seems more like "hope and a prayer".

Now, the Sabres are on a full-on rebuild, soon to have a need to spend $27m just to get to the Cap floor. Resigning their own will take a big chunk out of that if it includes Ullmark, McCabe, Dahlin, Joker, Asplund and Mitts. If they are only going to be signing a couple low-level UFA's then they must be planning to take back fairly significant Cap dumps...let's just hope they are of the shorter Term variety and have decent attitudes.

Not much more is clear until Jack is traded.

Welcome aboard the Culture Train.
Skill is required, yes absolutely. Without proper culture...well, you just saw what happens live and in technocolor.
Easy example...someone jumping on Mitts early when he was stuffing his face and not taking his career seriously...and leading him to the "Sabres Way".

I love the back-and-forth through media to try and strengthen positioning. Adams bluffs (?) about waiting it out and saying he has no issues with Jack (ya ok) and the Wild show the Sabres hand to everyone else.

They have to be taking that approach.

https://www.capfriendly.c.../armchair-gm/team/2352916

The above is the state of the team with Eichel and extending all the logical players including signing Ullmark and a backup in Brossoit.

With the impending Eichel trade, that puts them at $55M, which is $5M short of the cap floor.

I would go no longer then 3 seasons regarding taking back cap dumps, like Tyler Johnson or Adam Henrique's deal.

So far, as crazy as it may sound, Adams has done the easy part.

After the Eichel deal, a true test of their creativity and ingenuity is going to take place.

Good stuff Korab.

I say 2 years for Cap dumps is the limit they should target IMO.
It would be nice to have them coincide with Okposo's remaining contract term such that in year 3 they have suitable money to be active in FA to secure an additional piece or two to make them more competitive.

Pegula is tanking for Wright similar to when he tanked for McDavid.

My question is how does management expect Dahlin, Cozens and Mitts (and other core players going forward) to be proud to be Sabres and create a winning culture while simultaneously tanking at the same time?

How does management expect these players to react differently than when 55/23/9 were rookies while literally doing the same thing again?

See below for the pertinent part from Russo's article.

I find it nearly impossible to believe the bold below is true as it would massively limit the return. Adams cannot possibly be that dumb.

So the Wild and Sabres find themselves in a game of chicken.

Guerin doesn’t want to decimate his franchise by selling the farm, but he also can’t find a way to satisfy the Sabres’ request unless they are willing — or another team is willing — to essentially take $10 million worth of players from Minnesota.

Guerin’s either going to have to be patient and wait out the Sabres until their asking price significantly drops or simply find other ways to fill out his roster. As of now, Sabres GM Kevyn Adams doesn’t sound like he’s going to drop the price for Eichel, take on lucrative salaried players in the midst of an obvious rebuild, or retain any of Eichel’s salary.

My reasoning for saying 3 seasons is, and I know how ridiculous this sounds, it would be good for the young players to have a couple veterans like Johnson and Henrique, who still have gas left in the tank, to help guide them through the rough next couple of seasons to hopefully, hopefully, be a playoff team in 3 seasons and get them their first playoff experience.

These young guys like mitts and cozensons could easily put up 20 goals seasons in a much bigger role. Sharing the top 2 center positions. Positive steps forward.

Dahlin needs to get an 8 year extension before this season starts IMO.
Hand the team over to him, if he handle it.

Winning culture/ not purposely trying to openly lose would be nice.
