See below for the pertinent part from Russo's article.

I find it nearly impossible to believe the bold below is true as it would massively limit the return. Adams cannot possibly be that dumb.

So the Wild and Sabres find themselves in a game of chicken.

Guerin doesn’t want to decimate his franchise by selling the farm, but he also can’t find a way to satisfy the Sabres’ request unless they are willing — or another team is willing — to essentially take $10 million worth of players from Minnesota.

Guerin’s either going to have to be patient and wait out the Sabres until their asking price significantly drops or simply find other ways to fill out his roster. As of now, Sabres GM Kevyn Adams doesn’t sound like he’s going to drop the price for Eichel, take on lucrative salaried players in the midst of an obvious rebuild, or retain any of Eichel’s salary.

Furthermore, Wild need:
-money-in, money-out in any trade due to needing to resign Fiala and KK
-need Dmen, especially if Cole and Hunt leave in FA

Now
-Dumba is thought to be 1 Cap dump with $6m for 2 years; presents a problem in that it solves 1 issue (Cap) but creates another hole on D.
-Fiala is a RFA, not sure what his Contract is expected, so I'll guess at $5.5-$7m (call it $6.5m) . Trading him avoids that Cap hit
-Rask, with 1 year remaining at $4m would be another Cap dump possibility and gives the Sabres some experience at C

So, here's my thoughts
Eichel, Olofsson (50% retained), Miller (50% retained) = ~$13.5m
For
A) Cap dumps of Fiala, Dumba, Rask = ~$16.25m
B) Futures of Boldy, Rossi, '22-1st, +1 more future.

Miller helps to replace Dumba on D while reducing Cap hit by ~$4m
Olofsson helps to replace Fiala and saves them an estimated $3.7m...and improves their PP as all 3 ex-SAbres can man a 1st PP

Sabres take on alot of Cap to get to Floor and over
Dumba has 2 years, and could be traded at TDL in year 2
Rask has 1 year and helps with the C position
Both those contract are done over 1 and w years allowing Sabres to make FA moves in year 3

Could that work?
Anybody have Adams' cell phone number?

Yea not getting excited.

Why would losing this much not crush Cozens, Mitts, Dahlin, etc the same way it did Reinhart, Eichel, Risto etc.

- ImThatGuy

This is my worry...Losing for another 3 years and Cozens, Mitts and Dahlin will be asking to get out too.

Everything I do, I want to win," he said. "I'm also kind of a perfectionist. I hold myself to high standards. I want to win in whatever I do. Whether it's a board game or a sport or whatever it is, I'm competitive and I want to win it."

That competitive nature and that will to win, while sometimes embarrassing for his parents when he was growing up, has helped Wright blossom into a potential generational hockey player. Even though he's only 16 years old and not NHL draft eligible until 2022, he's already drawn comparisons to Connor McDavid, Sidney Crosby, and John Tavares - the next ones that came before him.

Talks of teams wanting to see a healthy Eichel coming from some reporters.
- sabresfan69

I'm sure SOME teams want that. Others might be comfortable w dealing for him now.

There's also the possibility that Eichel's injury is overblown and a power play by Eichel and his agent to accelerate getting Eichel out of Buffalo...

3 years is a lot different than losing for 7/8 years (Risto, Sam, Jack).

They need to stop w the revolving door of GM's and coaches, stop w the attempted quick fix trades and signings, and do it RIGHT, and in the short term (until you're ready to add to your team via trade/signing) that's through the draft. And yesterday went a long way towards that.

They aren't tanking for Wright. You can't try to lose in the hopes of winning the draft lottery at 18%.
- Slump Buster

Wright, Savoie, Lambert

If they are smart, they certainly should be positioning for 32nd place finish to guarantee 1 of those 3.

Most people feel Eichel is gone now because of the NMC but he can also be traded next year before July 1st before it kicks in

If the sabres are tanking for Wright or Savoie then they probably don't want him in the lineup this year.

It sounds like Adams is not getting close to the ask right now.

I can't see what Russo is saying to be true, the Sabres will need a few contracts just to get to the floor.

Pegula is tanking for Wright similar to when he tanked for McDavid.

My question is how does management expect Dahlin, Cozens and Mitts (and other core players going forward) to be proud to be Sabres and create a winning culture while simultaneously tanking at the same time?

How does management expect these players to react differently than when 55/23/9 were rookies while literally doing the same thing again?

Do we forget that Ralph Wilson was blamed countlessly for being cheap?

Do we forget that Beane and McDermott cleaned house and cut good players that weren’t living up to their end of the bargain?

It’s time to cut bait sadly. I can’t blame Eichel and Reinhart for not wanting to be here either.

Football and hockey are bad comparables. It doesnt take 4-6 years to develop players in the NFL.
