Anything can happen as every player develops differently, but equating Cozens to Girgensons is not accurate as Girgensons never produced points at any lower level like Cozens did in his draft year and D+1 season. - kingcong39 Girgenson came up through the USHL and weas doing 49 points in 51 games. Which is almost identical to what Cozens did his draft year, 53 points in 57 games.

Cozens played in 41 games last year, not 28, and was benched to give him breathers.
And I am certainly not going to pretend like Cozens was the only NHL player, to play through injuries, because, well, every NHLer does that. - Mentalorgasm5
He missed 27% of the games. And left the one he got hurt in on his first shift.
After his junior year last year he profiles as a top 6 player. Not a 4th liner |

We missed on some picks. Not saying they were glaring or easy but
Leon instead of Sam in 14
Aho in late 1st instead of trading picks in 15
Chicken man instead of Nylander and we are fine right now.
It was the right idea to re build. We just missed - Fattony1187
Good post Tony
They missed on every free agent signing and trade too
Okposo
Skimmer
Ror and then ror again

"A two-way player who is a tenacious forechecker with good speed, scouts rave more about Girgensons’ defense than offense. A hard worker without a standout skill, Girgensons projects to be a second-line center in the future and the perfect complement to Buffalo’s more offensively-oriented forwards."
Second line is top 6. And you could swap Girgensons name with Cozens' and you would have thought that report was written for cozens. |

Wouldn’t mind something like Levi, next years first, this years second and a player like Vatrano who could be moved for something. Not great, but at this point sounding more like the return we can expect |

Ugh. I'm going to have to come to terms that the return on Sam isn't going to be good. Or shame on me for expecting more? |

Hes going to be a top 6 player.
I’m sorry you didn’t like the pick, but his D+1 year and this year in the NHL show he profiles as a top 6.

For me this started with Tim Murray trading away 1st for Lehner could have had Konecny or Boeser, trading a 1st away in the Kane trade, Fasching for 2 2nds, Karabacek, Cornel, Lemieux even Johnson over Kaliyev
Drafting has been a disaster the last 10 years. - sabresfan69
Excellent post.
(3) 1st round picks in 2015 - should have been used towards younger guys. Draft eligible guys. |

I'm looking at the trades as a whole. Risto-return was great. Get a 22 1st, the goalie prospect and a young player and I'll be happy. |

Sam is a one-year rental if he doesn't re-sign in hot, humid Florida when he reportedly wants to move and live out west. Why would a team not out west give away the farm for a player who averaged 49 pts a year up until last year? I think he will get more than the goalie and the pick but expecting poopload for a rental is a little naive. |

I don't think I have seen anything like this Rienhart trade where its taking two days but has been announced as done.
They must be negotiating a new contract and its holding it up. |
