Ben Shelley: Hurricanes sign Andersen, Raanta and Martinook, acquire Bear from Oilers

It's okay I guess, but I don't see anything that is an upgrade over what was in the Canes lineup this past season. So far it has been a lot of quality subtraction and not much in the way of quality additions.

Add Josh Leivo and Ian Cole. Subject Brock McGinn

Canes have $15 million of cap space left to sign Svechnikov and another forward or two. Goal is wrapped up and have six signed defenseman with competition from system prospects.

It seems like they are being cheap to save cap space for a larger signing, but many of the moves have been head scratchers.

I'd love to see Brandon Saad signed, but likely too expensive. My hunch is they expecting a big ask from the Svech camp. Mixed emotions about Dougie leaving. His numbers demand a huge paycheck, and either you pay or don't. They chose the latter. Can't blame DH, as those big paydays are usually once in a lifetime.
