The 19 players I named, haven't won cups but are being paid over 9M AAV this coming year.
Nighthawk said that Kane got 10M because he won cups. If you took Kane's cap percentage from when he was winning cups and applied it to the cap now. Kane would be making a little over 9M a season right now. - manvanfan
That's why you are the bestest, (being just Joe average fan) I would have had no idea of the depth of the farm team. Now I do
MVF made a good point of the value of high cost players. This is where more intersectional points might be helpful. First year players and just traded and signed i.e.. Jones in Chicago; to players like Mariner and the mustache kid, who have a few years to bring the cup.
OLE is going to be good because he's in Vancouver not Phoenix. They gave him $$$ and said figure it out while there. He's going to be set up to succeed here. Unless he pullls a Loui, my prediction is either All Star game, or getting Quinn there.
First time in a while there's something to look forward too.
(I'm a computer guy so here's something that makes me smile.)

cap issues probably - VANTEL
It’s just regular business. Plenty of room for Dikie, Huggy and Petey with a schmill or two left over. Clearly not enough room for a Hamilton, Landeskog or Eichle, let alone all three…
If EP is looking for $9M per then negotiations will definitely drag on. If him and his agents don’t move off that figure I’d trade his ass. I’d rather be a Vegas styled team than a Leafs styled team. - bloatedmosquito
He’s only getting 9 on a long deal. But he’s done things that very few players have in his short time as a Canuck. It’s as sure a bet as you could make.

8/9m I’m ok with begrudgingly. Bridge deal makes more sense for him & the team cap structure. 2 reasons why is he wants to win & he will cash in big on his next deal when time allows the big cap hit.
Hughes needs a show me bridge imo. If he wants to hit it big the D has to improve accordingly.

He's done things that only 10M plus players have done recently.

Grubauer's contract w/ the #SeaKraken was rejected by the NHL central registry for violating the front-loaded contract requirements:
-1.5M increase between 22/23-23/24 exceeds 25% of 1st year salary
The contract needs to be restructured and resubmitted

I always wondered a bit why the salary and signing bonuses changed yearly. What's really the difference?
Only thing I could think of is lock out year a heavier signing bonus. - manvanfan
Lockout protection (lots of bonus) and buyout protection-benefit. If the last couple years are mostly bonus and very little salary it’s easier (for a rich team) to buy out the last couple years. Bonus money is paid at 100%, and remaining salary at 66%

Agents will work the deal to make sure that their clients (and firms) will maximize the dollars no matter how things go.
Hamilton’s deal is like a bell curve - low front end because of escrow, huge in the middle and low on the backend in case he gets bought out. - 1970vintage
For sure they will squeeze every penny they can, as they should.
I'm sure a lot of contracts benefits teams just as much as player.

I'm pretty sure if mini was signing the contract and his agent walked him through it he'd feel differently, as he should. It often takes months to iron out a deal for a 1st round NFL pick even though their salaries are pre-determined. The devil is in the details.

Can’t say I understand the NFL system at all. I know guys are signing deals with X% guaranteed and that teams have options of making a guy play one more year (franchise tag?) and that they can terminate contracts?

Yeah in the NFL the whole contract isn't guaranteed unless it's in the language. Something different for draft picks though. My main point is that there are details in every deal that makes them unique. Two players in the NFL can sign identical term and salary and one can get paid much more than the other. A similar situation exists in the NHL although not as extreme as you pointed out with buyouts, bonus money, etc.
