Here's my surprise: The moment that the NHL found out that Evander Kane declared bankruptcy because he has a serious gambling addiction, they should have hired their own internal investigator to go look into it. Ensure that you're ahead of it. It's not like it's uncommon for a person with a serious and desperate gambling addiction to do terrible and stupid things. In other words - the NHL should have been ahead of these allegations already. The fact that they weren't is a surprise to me.

Maybe they were and the fact that they haven't thrown the book at Kane is proof that they have no evidence of it, but now they'll look deeper or elsewhere - I don't know. What I do know is that he is not guilty of betting on the NHL at the moment.

It doesn't change the fact that he's a ginormous asshat. He is completely guilty of that.

We're all guilty of "judging" people constantly and we base a lot of our opinions on conjecture, patterns, and our own personal voodoo.

I'm not some #metoo fanatic but I'd be willing to bet he's a piece of poop who let his gambling addiction consume his life. I've had personal experience dealing with gambling addicts and very rarely have they not been sociopathic jerks (and by very rarely I mean zero).

Maybe Evander Kane is a unicorn and all of these accusations by his soon-to-be-ex-wife are bs. Maybe. I doubt it, but sure, I can't say for certain whether he's 100% guilty. 🤷

Per gambling on his own team, I have no idea. But I wouldn't be surprised if he pulled a Pete Rose, "I only bet on our team winning, I swear!" card if he did (it'll be hard to prove he threw games).

At the end of the day, the last thing the Leafs would need to add to this club is a player who is clearly troubled and whose personal and financial life is a (frank)ing disaster. To those who say we should sign him, don't hold your breath. Dubas wouldn't touch this guy with 67' pole.
