Kesler+Rakell+asset for Kerfoot is very intriguing.

I mean accruing cap space is important but if they can make that deal with Anaheim I would imagine that asset would be quite significant given that Kerfoot is being paid 700k this season. Ducks would be saving 9M.

Do like the explanation on accrual of cap space around injured player.

Seems like an exercise that can be very effective when targeted. Wonder if it is done too randomly if it could not come back to bite you. For example, what happens if you are unable to bring back someone who is adequate replacement for Kerfoot?

The only way you trade for Kesler is if you get your TDL add now.

He is owed 7m this season which is an insane amount with teams struggling financially.

You take the assets you get by taking Kesler's contract and use it to improve your team now instead of the deadline.

You'd still have the option at the deadline to upgrade players just not add.

Maybe you get a M retained on rakell's contract and a couple 2nds. Then use some picks to add another player with the cap savings.

He won't make rebuild moves ever...he is primed to have a Rakell/Kerfoot type trade so he can get another year out of a cheaper contract but take the worse player...a hockey deal has he keeps calling it.

Wouldn't be opposed to swapping Dermott and Terry either...I like the Leafs D enough to send Dermott out and have the 3rd pairing Sandin and a mix of Lil, Dahlstrom, Biega and Minnell.
