Not sure hope he’s ok. Yeah wasn’t happy he left initially but in hindsight sight it was for the better for multiple reasons. Imagine having that cap hit on a declining player… - Cptmjl
Yep. I was disappointed he left. Especially the way he left. That contract is going to be bad. To be fair the contract the Isles offered him was also going to be bad down the stretch. That's just the way it is in the NHL these days.

He took less money to play with the Leafs. He’ll make more money of course in commercials, ads, etc playing for Toronto in the end but we were going to pay him a million more. Imagine if we had a 12 million dollar per year Tavares.
Sorry and no offense Schwein. Frankly I don’t have an opinion either way on your countries politics...and who am I to judge? Just got a little overheated and had to drop a little something. - streaks
No offence taken. I’m rather ambivalent about Trudeau. But I am a HUGE fan of people triggering Leaf Nation.
Spot on summary. BTW went striper fishing today up off Portland Maine coast. Caught a sh!t ton of mackerel for bait and 10 stripers with my family. Had a blast. 10 year old son got the top prize with a 26.5” fish. So much fun. - streaks
I read this as "stripper fishing" at first and then was thoroughly disappointed as I read on

Haha the funny part is you can’t type “striper” very easily - spell check prefers “stripper.” 🤣 But if I were indeed searching for strippers up here in Maine, I believe the proper term would be trolling vs fishing. 😂
That thread is a multi layered mess of stupidity on just about every level imaginable
Edit; I didn’t know that was your alt - Cptmjl
That’s because 1 “Islanders fan” was in their room talking about JT. Things like how do you like his contract now. Just dumb poop. And he doesn’t even post here. At least not with that alt.

Why don’t I care about this ever? Especially with the collection of schmucks that post over there. - Cptmjl
On another front, I'm watching that 2018 exit presser with Ledecky. God, Snow was even more smug and idiotic than I remembered. When he was asked if he felt he was fit to remain on the job after 12 years and 8 missed playoff, and he answered absolutely.

That was one of the most hysterically, laughable, awkward, things I’ve ever seen in my life

He just leans back in his chair and put his hands in his pockets like an idiot. He couldn't even be bothered to shave, or at least trim his beard, let alone put on a suit and dress appropriately. When Ledecky said he was going to look at ALL aspects of hockey operations, Snow just had this look as if he was thinking he was completely safe. Just dumb.
And Weight looked either confused or constipated half the time.

Amen to that.. Always amazing to me that the fanbase with one of the worst histories in the league talks so much sht. Every year they fail with JT there makes me smile. He gets slower and worse and they are still paying him a fortune... my only regret is we didn't at the last minute when we knew he was leaving trade him to Toronto for a late round pick so they could sign him for an extra year.

He really was one of the most smug people I have ever met.. In hockey you usually get really down to earth nice people. Snow was the opposite.

I believe it needed to be a sign and trade to get the 8th year. I could be wrong though.

He was/is a big piece of sh!t. If he's still with the organization, I hope they have him gluing fallen leaves back onto the trees in fall.

He was still getting paid a few years ago but literally did nothing with the team.

I don't blame Tavares for leaving the Islanders. Team was a joke. But if your going to leave at least go to a team that has chance to win. When you leave a team your looking to better your situation not make it worse. Since that signing the islanders went to the conference finals twice.
The leafs have not won a round since the signing. I was at that game. His return to the Coliseum and the islanders fans said it perfectly WE DONT NEED YOU.

You could tell both Weight and Snow were completely blind sided by what Ledecky said. That’s when those guys or orchestrated the whole billboard thing. Obviously Ledecky knew he was shat canning them at that point but Snow and Weight did not. It became clear to me that day they were on their way out and that’s the reason it will be one of my fondest memories of this team. I was NEVER a fan of Snow could not stand the guy.

this is just not true.. he got more from his signing bonus then he would have made from the Isles entire contract. that is why Toronto structured it that way.. they have a lower tax rate on bonus money than ordinary income. (20%). SO he made over $54 millioin on his $70 million signing bonus in take home money. That is more than he would have taken home from Isles $12 mill a year for 8 years. then the 1 mill a year and then tack on commercials, etc.

100% agree with the first bold.
Not so much the second bold. The Queefs were his boyhood team. He grew up cheering for them. My guess is that he also thought they were going to be better than the Isles. Bear in mind that they had/have Matthews & Marner and a better roster than the Isles. On paper anyway. Of course, as it turned out, they haven't gotten out of the first round, as you said. And I hope they never do.

I could see the leafs missing the playoffs this season. Only team that is a guaranteed win is buffalo. Detroit is improved. Florida and Tampa are a force and boston and Montreal are very good teams. Ottawa could be improved. Not going to be easy.
