My question to Leafs fans, is does Auston Matthews finish his current contract in a Leafs uniform? Close friend of mine lives out in Scottsdale, AZ and has friends in Matthews circle going way back in the desert, that this is the first off-season where Matthews has said privately he is growing increasingly frustrated with the state of the team. Anyone in Leafs land see Matthews being traded before he finishes his current contract? Just curious!

Tell him to join the club.

There will be a relocation fee that will be hefty, because the optics of buying the Coyotes for $250M when Seattle just paid $650M aren’t good.
- Atomic Wedgie

Yeah. When the Jets bought the Thrashers they only paid $110 million for the team itself and a $60 million relocation fee.

The Coyotes are currently valued around $280 million according to Forbes, so call it a $150 million relocation fee.

$430 Million USD to buy and move the team. That's a lot of dough.

They're also on the brink of a water crisis and the state is on fire north of them every year but to each their own. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I'm not a big sunshine guy, although I do enjoy partaking in the Phoenix 20 degree weather for a week every February when it's -40 in Alberta.

- joel878

I lived in AB all last winter and it rarely got below -20.

It can reach -40, but it’s been relatively mild lately.

Is it bad there too? Even though you're just down the road there's (frank) all about Saskatchewan in our news here.

Me and Mrs were talking about going out to the cypress hills resort for a few days next weekend. I'm not up on your rules or anything but I'm assuming there's more at play than the go hard Alberta mentality.

I think he will end up in Anaheim

Lots of good young players :

Comtois
Zegras
Steel
Terry
McTavish
Drysdale

And still 3 years of Gibson

Otherwise LA Kings.
Kopitar contract is up in 3 years.
Large prospect pool

- mr.sir

Cool, he can have fun there.

Agree, but still way less than what Vegas or Seattle paid. The bigger issue would be where would they relocate to?

Maybe where you are, but it was below - 40 wind chill wise for over a week here twice last winter.

Agree, but would it be too greedy to want both? With Mitchy and JT UFA the same year as McDavid, that really would be some kind talent up the middle.

Nah we're pretty much wide open here too. You guys at least have masks for public transit. We don't even have that.

I'm actually going camping in Cypress next week. Maybe I'll see you there.

Nah for real during the weekends in the late summer there's always a late 80's F150 with a cap on it loaded up with corn for sale. Some old Mennonite couple drives it down every week.

You ever been there in the summer? The pavement melts in Phoenix in July, almost prefer a Toronto winter to that. Auston doesn't seem to mind though, he can afford AC just like he can heat. 🤷🏻‍♂️
- joel878

Auston knows that if it eve gets too hot, he can just take down his pants.

No it wouldnt be too greedy.
Sign me up.
You could probably keep marner at a lower price.
Plus how much more will mcd and matthews want. I think theyll sign to close to what theyre making now.
