At least Aho was a player the Habs needed.
Carolina don't need Kotkaniemi, it's just petty revenge from an owner who's ego was bruised a little bit.
Let's say that offer sheets are just dumb to begin with. - stinger67
I'm sure with all the "drama" and talk that this generated Bettman will try to convince other GMs across the league to make offersheets more often loll

I wish they were used more often.

i'm just thinking ahead to December when a $6-million 21-year-old center has 5 points in 22 games and the Habs are so tight up on the cap they have can only dress 11 forwards for a game in Toronto. - DoubleDown
6.1M$ in Montreal will mean hell for Kotkaniemi in Montréal. Media and fans will get on his back as soon as he struggles. In Carolina, nobody will give a (frank).
I think he's gone...already stripped his social media of anything Canadiens related.
I think Bergevin is probably already shopping Carolina's first round pick to find a replacement. Likely Dvorak from Arizona.
I'm not happy about this turn of events, but hopefully they learn from this and make better decisions regarding their young prospects in the future...but I doubt it...Even if they're well dressed, you can't teach old monkeys new tricks. |

they'd be used more often properly if teams didn't react like jilted lovers when it occurs. look back to how Dundon and Waddell reacted. they took it as a total personal affront. remember Brian Burke's reaction to Dustin Penner getting poached? he wanted to fistfight Kevin Lowe. these guys are absolute (frank)ing babies.
personally i have ZERO problem with KK getting the OS. you got a guy sitting out there a few weeks before training camp without a contract? you're (frank)ing asking for it. only thing that bugs me about what Carolina is doing is the trolling element. i don't understand that.

Looking at the team, this is a go year and then next year is all a mystery. Some good prospects though like Jarvis, Drury, Bokk and Suzuki |

Roster is a dumpster fire lol you are a clown.
6 weeks after they make the Stanley Cup Final and the roster is a dumpster fire lolol they didn’t have caufield in the regular season last year. Adding him plus Hoffman is 50 goals plus. Danault and KK had 10 goals total last year. Evans can play the shut down role.
Carolina has no interest in KK. Zero. They have aho trochek Staal down the middle and necas can play Center too. This whole thing is a joke to get back at Montreal. I hope it backfires. They lowballed Dougie Hamilton at 6.5 million but willing to pay 6.1 for a 3rd line center with no offense? And they traded their Calder finalist goalie because they couldn’t pay him 3 million. Let him go - QuickSCF

Really? Even if you ignore the revenge/MTL element...Carolina tries so hard to be the hip young troll team about everything. From their dumb on ice celebrations (that would have got me drawn and quartered as a kid playing puck) to the Nashville banner stuff to the jerk store, etc. Some love it. Some hate it. I accept it but find I'm disinterested in it |

Isn't it the rehash of their old/classic logo? I admit I looked for like 4 seconds. Otherwise Chara is the only answer |

oh right, forgot about the "being vulnerable" comment lol... still, KK's offersheet is an overreaction, and the Canes definitely have their fair share of responsibility for the current situation, it doesn't rest all on Bergevin's shoulders imho. - Pat1993
Don't disagree, but at least it gave up something to talk about other than coffee, chickens and covid.

I'm on the fence on matching. On one hand...can't show weakness. On the other hand...I don't think Kotkaniemi wants to be in MTL, honestly I don't, so maybe taking the picks and making Carolina figure a way under the cap while hoping they collapse without Hamilton and Mrazek and bringing in ADA. Maybe try and move Chiarot for a 1st and go into the draft in Montreal next year with 3 or more firsts including what should be a lottery pick of their own. Only MB could burn through all the good will of the spring playoff run this quickly. What a putrid summer for the Habs - Takemedrunkimhome
If that is a fact, then I think it is best for both parties - regardless of the 6.1 or the picks in return, to walk away.
But any way you look at it, this might be the worst summer under MB... and that says a lot.

He is getting $6.1 million.
