3rd overall means what it means.
suzuki is already better than him
galchenyuk was 3rd overall and so was Drouin - deadpoulet
Yup. But Drouin was traded at 23. During his age 20/21 season he had 10 points in 21 NHL games.
Point being these guys had high value at age 21. He's still really young. One of only 6 guys in his draft class that have hit 100 games played. |

Here is what I am mad about.
Terrible asset management.
1 / Habs wasted picks and youth in the first few years of MB's 5-year plan in getting mediocre vets and sign terrible free agents.
2/ Habs shift to youth movement, but only do somewhat well in development (and mostly fail)
3/ Spend last year pushing youth aside for mediocre vets
In the process, they wasted a 3rd (Galchenyuk, who should have went back to junior, after missing most of the previous year with an injury), trade Sergachev for their magic 1st line canter in Drouin, who has been mediocre at best and never a proven center, and wasted another 3rd pick now on KK, who should also hav been sent back to the Finnish league or the AHL.
This team lacks clear strategy in managing assets and developing players... it is all half assed.
I really do not give a poop if they lose for 5 years but can show something solid for the next 5+ years afterwards.
Habs have had 1 mediocre pandemic year with a long playoff run. The rest, mediocre, as well.
This roster is a (frank)ing dumpster fire - with or without KK.
That is what I am (frank)ing pissed about. - Mashadar
Roster is a dumpster fire lol you are a clown.
6 weeks after they make the Stanley Cup Final and the roster is a dumpster fire lolol they didn’t have caufield in the regular season last year. Adding him plus Hoffman is 50 goals plus. Danault and KK had 10 goals total last year. Evans can play the shut down role.
Carolina has no interest in KK. Zero. They have aho trochek Staal down the middle and necas can play Center too. This whole thing is a joke to get back at Montreal. I hope it backfires. They lowballed Dougie Hamilton at 6.5 million but willing to pay 6.1 for a 3rd line center with no offense? And they traded their Calder finalist goalie because they couldn’t pay him 3 million. Let him go |

Habs #1 goalie is now injured most years during the season, but granted, is aces in the playoffs. But you actually have to make the playoffs for that to work. And hope he does not get injured in the playoffs. (Also, the Habs are not makign the playoffs in a much tougher division/conference, now that we are back to normal hockey)
Habs D has 1 legitimate top 2 (Petry), the rest are 4-6 guys, with a potential in Romanov, who they refuse to use in the playoffs. As much as I am not a Weber fan, Savard is a massive downgrade there, too.
Top 4 centers now are Suzuki, Evans, Perrault and Paquette. So expect to see Drouin and maybe even Byron (when back from injury) at center during. If Peohling cannot crack the lineup as a top 4 center, this just gets uglier.
There are decent 20-25 goal wingers on the team, but nothing that is a game breaker. CC might be one day, but he is not there yet.
I am not sure Gretzky in his prime gets the Habs into the playoffs... so yeah, dumpster fire.

Good luck with the 3.5-4M$ cap hit, from what i understand, he will have to be paid at least 6,1M$ per for the next 4 seasons

Is it a great return for a 21 year old 3rd overall pick? - BINGO!
Come on now bingo. You know full well they drafted by position in a draft that was weak at center. He was supposed to go mid fist round, and frankly he's looking more like a second or third rounder to me. Yes he's young but he just hasn't progressed really well. For him to be worth 6.1 a first, second and 20 million in bonuses he would have to take three major leaps forward this year. Anything is possible I guess. |

Also, i hear alot of good on KK for signing 6M deal.
Well i just find it plain disrespectful for a player that was drafted 3rd overall agaisnt all odds and that knows very well
That hes worth about half that amount at 21 |

I like how people think that KK will automatically accept an extension for considerably less than his qualifying amount

Yes, if that 3rd overall picks turns out to be Drouin, Galchenyuk, Bogosian, Turris or Godbranson. - Ross77

No.
After this year, they can sign a contract at whatever value they want, as long as they agree.
But the Carolina does have to tender 6.1 to retain his rights with a qualifying contract if one is not signed by free agency.
