I figured Ryan would get a PTO. Hope he makes it.

I went through this a bit before, but the best prospects really need top 6 minutes. Either they take a job here or get top ice in Grand Rapids. If Ryan makes the team, I think he’ll be third or 4th line. From what we saw at the tournament, those kids need reps in GR. Veleno is stronger, for sure, but they want him at center (at least for now). He’s just not going to grab that spot in the top 6 at this point. Raymond looked really good at some points, but he needs some muscle. Chase Pearson may eventually be a 4th line guy, but let him get reps with more minutes for now. The bottom 6 is almost overflowing at this point. Veleno or Raymond could well be the first call up once injuries kick in

I think Veleno is on the roster from the first night, he proved he belonged last year. None of us think he is a top 6 forward so why does he need to play top 6min in GR? With all the forwards so far, I would rather give Raymond and Berrgren some looks throughout the year.

Vrana - Larkin - Zadina
Fabbri - Suter - Bert
Erne - Ras - Veleno
Namestikov - Mitchell - Smith
++Ganger - Rowney - Ryan

I’m just going off what Yzerman has said. Veleno is being worked at center, and his defense is nowhere even close. Reps are a huge part of development and playing 20 minutes per night vs 10 or less is significant. I just don’t see him on the opening roster unless there are injuries that put him there. He and Vrana had a decent run, but his defensive positioning was really poor. That same season he had been bumped down in the SHL. Just really needs to work more on that side of his games plus get reps at center as long as they want him to.

Veleno played 5 NHL games and had 1 goal and no assists. He only had 8 shots in those 5 games average 15 minutes a night. That’s not great.
. In the SHL he played 46 games and had 11 goals and 9 assists. In GR he played 4 games and had 1 goals and 2 assists. He can still do a lot to develop his game at this point.
