Its amazing that a coach and GM still dont understand that you need to put Brown in every situation to see what you have, plus to increase his value. It's one thing to have an agenda against the guy, but it's another when you are screwing up an asset over and over. It defies all logic with this GM!

Don’t remember who said that yesterday and today , but L.Brown way behind in every skate practice. Come to me He have no heart and determination. Dorion would be better taking the pick from Arizona

It's not the first time that Smith has rewarded someone for being well-conditioned coming into training camp. And to some extent, I can get the value of doing that to reinforce the expectation that people come to training camp like professionals. The real question is, when does the very short-term value of that get overtaken with the long-term reality that Tierney just isn't a #2C? Presumably, it's going to eventually come down to White/Pinto, so I guess we'll see who steps up to the challenge.

Regardless, the C fiasco on this team just keeps rolling. I'd really like to see Logan Brown given a chance to start the year as the #4C between Ennis/Watson, because it would give him regular minutes with a pair of NHL veterans, plus the option of a fast/physical winger to help manage the puck. Unfortunately, I could just as easily see them playing Ennis or Bishop at #4C, if they wanted to develop Pinto in the AHL for a season.

I agree with your philosophy, especially in paragraph 2 but why not increase Browns trade value like they are trying to do with Tierney?!

AZ twice called with an offer and SJ did so about 10 days ago. But he kept on saying it had to be a hockey deal! Incredible!

so essentially Dorion and melnyk consider this year one of 5 years of unprecedented success, the core will be traded in 4 and 5 years, just watch.

Do you really need hard data?

- they don't have a legitimate top-4D
- they have no legitimate #1C now, or in the prospect system
- the only F who have ever scored >45pts are Ennis (49) and Tierney (48)
- Murray has been a unmitigated disaster

Plus...
- Formenton, Pinto, and Zub are just starting to make a legitimate impact
- they're making F-ing around with Brannstrom/Mete into an art form
- none of Sanderson, Bernard-Docker, Thomson, or Kleven are ready
- none of Jarventie, Sokolov, Grieg, or Crookshank are ready
- neither of Gustavsson or Sogaard are ready

Despite all of that, it's not impossible that they could surprise some people... but the rebuild is FAR from over.

I have been hammering management about their lack of filling in the holes on this team but just thought I would post this piece by Travis.

You hit the nail on the head.

Assuming Norris and Pinto hit their ceilings (IMO, two good second line centers), where does that put Ottawa in terms of center strength compared to the rest of the league?

Obviously not great, in that one regard. Unless Stuzle gets flipped to center, I think the plan will be for the defence to be the real area of strength for the team, with strong wingers.

We discussed this a bit during he playoffs if this is a realistic avenue for success. (Montreal, Vegas, Nashville a few years back)

Or something very similar SHOULD be the opening night line-up. But it won’t be.

Early lineup reports from training camp, based on the Locked On Senators podcast...

- Paul replacing Tkachuk on the top line with Norris and Batherson
- Tierney getting the first crack at playing between Stutzle and C. Brown
- Chabot/Zub and Del Zotto/Zaitsev are the initial top-4 D
- White playing between Formenton and Watson
- Pinto playing between Ennis and Sokolov
- Bishop playing between Sabourin and Kelly
- L. Brown playing between Reinhardt and Shaw
.

This is disappointing to hear. Teirney is what he is, and it’s not a second-line center. Brown needs to be given the chance, especially given that there’s no top end center depth. I don’t think it’ll work out with brown, but worst case his numbers get padded playing with good players and his trade bait is better. Take the 2nd rd. pick and let’s move on.

Playing Tierney higher up to increase his trade value is enough on it’s own to make it clear Ottawa is going to draft bomb again this year.

Trading Dadonov with no RW replacement, not picking up a legit #2 center, and making your big defensive signing old ass Del Zotto shows that we’re getting a top ten pick next year and that’s frustrating.

lol, yup, but the rebuild is done because Dorion told us all it is after he signed his extension! Just like the Stone trade was his greatest day as a GM! At least many fans see that just because management and ownership tell us one thing, that knowledgeable fans arent fooled by Dorion and Melnyk!

What people misunderstand is that the concept of rebuild operates way outside the eye of the average observer. First stage of rebuild is when an organization tops out and begins to fade (hard results). Second stage is the selling off of assets. Third is the harvesting of new assets and the final stage is a consolidation of the new enterprise and the search for success.

Clearly this rebuild is over. We are now in the consolidation stage. Will the rebuild prove out to be successful? This is a very different question? But, the big lift of rebuild, has indeed been completed.

Every successful enterprise is in the business of marketing hope. It is universally true for the business of sport. When a team brings their ace reliever into the 9th inning it raises hopes that he will successfully retire the last 3 outs. On the other side, the fans are hoping for the the pinch hitter to get on base. Hope is the juice that drives all sport.

We would be profoundly disappointed if the Sens were not promoting hope, especially at this stage in their enterprise development. Based on the fan response it appears to me that they are getting very good at it!

Granpa what you are doing is "hoping against hope." It is not good, it turns your soul black and almost, always leaves you feeling bitter and unhappy.

Team Red dominating play. But, Team White has scored twice. Brannstrom and Sokolov with the goals. Pinto with 2 assists. Pinto had a huge defensive play coming back on a near breakaway.

Going to be hard to keep Pinto down.

Stuetzle is the between period interview, his english has improved. Or, he is just a lot more comfortable with a microphone.

Logan Brown is not trying. Something not going right with this player. He needs to think about a year in Europe.

Oops correction Logan Brown just had a strong shift.

2nd good shift for Logan Brown.

Josh Norris scores Norris type goal. He took what the defense gave him and buried a nice shot. Colin White ties it up at 2-2. White has had a good scrimmage.

Team White wins on goal by Lassi Thomspson. Great pass by Logan Brown
