That's simply false. They used numerous high level draft picks on defenseman. Including taking Owen Power first overall in the most recent draft.

I don't see how you've documented that they did half the plan. I think if you dive deep you'll find that those past cup winners didn't tank. Tanking is purposely icing a bad team in order to get higher draft picks.
If we want to talk about those cup team what we'll find is that having top 5 picks is a part of the puzzle but not the only part. We have to look at all the teams that have had top 5 picks and didn't build a Cup team. If you don't then you're making an incomplete analysis as much as you think Buffalo only did half the plan.

I said they wouldn't be able to recover from a proper rebuild because the fanbase would become very disinterested after about a year of tanking and losing. As an organization and owned by Comcast, there is no way the Flyers would ever do a long-term rebuild in the ways that some on here suggest doing.

Not sure how else you're drafting those unless you suck for a while. Tampa, Chicago, Pitts, Wash... all had some dark years to get those high picks. They just did better jobs or got luckier with their picks.

The only team that kind of retooled or didn't strip it down like "us" is Boston I think... Even they've had some high picks though. Not sure how LA got Kopitar/Quick.

If you really look at what you're saying here. You are actually making an argument for why you shouldn't tank.

Again, tanking is not having a down or dark year. Tanking would be purposely trying to have dark years to get higher picks. Every team goes through up and down cycles.
