I was never a fan of any of the base Fleer sets. Ultra was nice, but I only ever did 94/95 Flair and Metal (I think 95/96 and 96/97). Ultra usually had a decent base set, but the inserts never did much for me.

All in all, I always saw Fleer as a bottom-rung product over even Topps, Donruss, and Score, and definitely below Upper Deck, Leaf, and Pinnacle.

That's one of the things that I found odd about this set; For something you label as a flagship set, you'd want to be a bit less extreme, while using other sets to play with. The Ultra sets of this era were far more conservative in their design than this, and actually look respectable. This was so far from that! Never floated my boat...
