I hope the team does great this year, but it is very hard to see how they do not stay out of the bottom 3 teams in the league. There are some talented players on it, but not enough to overcome a roster filled with journeyman players, both young and old.
I have no problem, in fact I prefer, them ending in the bottom 3 standings for a top-3 in the 2022 draft !! -
Predicated that this season is properly used to develop the skilled, young talent we have - specifically Chinahkov, Sillinger. If Larsen turns into Torts 2.0, using the quick benching every time a mistake is made, then this season will be as worthless as last season was.
I really believe Sillinger would benefit best by starting the season in Cleveland until he proves he doesn't belong there. Traverse City was a really good start, but do it for 20 games, against bigger, stronger players than in Juniors. I wouldn't be surprised if he plays 9 games in Columbus, then gets sent down . . . unless, of course, he sets the league on fire.
Since Chinahkov's already played a year in the KHL, his transition to NHL players should be easier. His transition to NHL speed, and rink size might be a different story, but he will probably stay in Columbus, unless he bombs.
It all starts tonight . . . and we better win the game. |
