the last 4 years of the deal have an NMC - sensarmy_11
capfriendly didn't have it posted when I checked and now he's not even listed with the team.
well at least he got himself some trade protection in where he goes. |

Wow….move over, Darnell Nurse. We have a new leader on the “most wildly overpaid player” board
I like Tkachuk. He’s effective. But he’s topped out at 45 points, and his PPG hasn’t improved in three seasons. Not a great sign.
Still, got it done. That’s something |

From Friedman on Twitter.
“Full breakdown is in the release, NMC when Tkachuk is eligible…years 5-7. Good day for player and team”
So actually 3 years, not 4….my bad |

You think he's hit his peak at 22? |

From the team who pays Mitch “I run and hide in a corner when games matter” Marner 11 million or 7 mil to Nylander who’s the softest one dimensional perimeter player in the league |

Recent survey of fans demonstrated Leaf faithful are in the bottom 1/3 of league in terms fan confidence and expectations for a successful season (23rd overall).
This is a fragile group. They spend mostl their time shouting into an echo chamber telling each other everything is fine. When they are not doing the echo chamber thing they are filled with worry and anxiety over the rest of league laughing at them. I believe it is going to be another disappointing year by the Blue Team. Perhaps it starts as early as this evening.

Leaf fans are very fragile and it is relatively easy to make them go away.
Thank you for noticing my modest fumigation.
I don't dislike Leaf fans. Once upon a time I was one.
But, they are sometimes overwhelming dumb. They over expose themselves, they over promise and they set themselves up for failure. Sometimes I think I am just being helpful by kicking them squarely in the nutx before they get too far gone.

branny had to be sent down....he's the only player (who wasn't in the lineup tonight) who could be sent down without waivers to make room for the Tkachuk contract.
besides, better for him to be playing top pair in the AHL than to be sitting in the press box in Ottawa - sensarmy_11
So, how long does he stay in Belleville then? Who gets oved out to make room |

I would assume that when Murray is ready and Gus goes back down, Branny will come back up |

Just a thought which could easily be completely wrong.
If Brady doesn't improve offensively in the next couple of years it may be very hard to move him when the cost will be 10.5 million.
On the other hand if he starts putting up bigger numbers won't that make a trade too difficult for someone like Melnyk to resist?
Just to be clear I'm not predicting anything, just playing around with ideas. Personally I want to believe that those kids throwing hats over the fence the day after Stutzle's hat trick was a harbinger of great things to come for this franchise. |

Sens worth 540M, 210M LESS than Winnipeg, which is a smaller market than OTT. |

Yay. Good amount of term. Welcome back to the fold Brady.
Gustavsson is good news imo. Murray hurt not/sick not so good |

I think a lot of fans remember the hat trick day in a Kanata back yard. We all had a similar positive reaction. Maybe this team is going to come together as something ver special.
Tkachuk is a natural leader.
Safe to assume the cap will increase by 20% over the next few years. Increased revenue streams coming from multiple sources will soften some of the pressures on gate revenue. The US TV contract, gambling streams and international marketing will add equal valued increases for all teams.
I think we can figure out what the Sens are trying to do over the next few years. I believe they are looking at a model of a team budget in the range of $96m. with 6 players accounting for 50% of the total salary expenditure. It will work.

I prefer to take the length of the deal and divide the total.
Sens wanted him for 8. He wanted bonuses. If we are to believe what was leaked by the team they offered him 8x8. If we are to believe what was leaked by Team Keith...he wanted a bridge or less term. Compromises were made.....I guess. An overpay by 200-250K a year.
Interesting that in the old days, more term meant less money. Now it means more. As you're buying UFA years from the player. - Octavarium
Another interesting thing in todays nhl. Is that the young players get paid way more before proving their worth. Before it was opposite.
Anyway game night finally and brady signed. All drama gone for the time being.

I’d rather pay a bit more early and bet on a young player continuing to improve rather than handing out a boat load of money later and betting on an older player not regressing. |

You would think but I've heard reputable hockey commentators explain why an essentially flat cap is inevitable for several years to come and I'm not smart enough to know if that's true or not.
If the cap does stay flat they should still be okay if they set the ceiling for their best players around eight million. Just keep those prospects coming. |

Some interesting examples of that in Ottawa.
Turris was a steal during most of his time in Ottawa.
Greening, White not so much. |

I will say, it's interesting Winnipeg is worth so much more.
Is it sponsorship, something else? |

It is funny seeing the segment of Blues fans previously chatting it up now missing. I never expected Tkachuk to hold out for a short term deal in hopes of signing with STL, that was preposterous.
I believe the Tkachuk family loves our city and the brothers are good friends with Robert Thomas, but clearly Brady also has an adoration for Ottawa. I think your team is on the upswing and you have a solid group of young players. Brady signing was a smart move.
Is it an overpay? Maybe, but I don't consider the overall contract bad. In fact I think the term is perfect. More GMs should realize having a player signed until he is 30 is the perfect time frame. You get their best years and then trade them when they have roughly 2 years left on their contract and recoup some serious assets. |
