I think we overpaid a bit (AVV-wise) by $500K-$1M but time will tell.

Far to much money for a guy who Isn't even the teams best player.

I’m happy the deal is done. It is a vast overpayment, but that means Dorian is going to need to sign a couple steals.

The fact that so many leafs and habs fans are whining about how much of an overpayment it is means it's a perfect f-ing deal.....and they're just pissed that they'll be facing him for 7 more years.

Anyway you slice it, this is a massive moment for the franchise. Cap hit might be a little high but Brady was a high valued commodity and chose to sign long term in Ottawa. It's a jolt of positive energy the franchise solely needs after seeing other highly valued commodities move on.

Time to move on from this and start focusing on the on-ice product.

Well, I honestly didn't think they'd get a 7yr/8yr deal done, so good for them for creating what is clearly now a 7yr competitive window for the team. And while it still feels like they're paying an awful lot for Tkachuk, if you look at the year/$$$ breakdown, it looks like Brady was aiming for at least a $7Mx3yr bridge deal. So topping it up to $8.2M/yr for the extra 4yrs of term doesn't seem bad if that was already his expected AAV. They've also established a pretty clear Chabot/Tkachuk cap of ~$8.0M-$8.5M, which should provide a functional glass ceiling for any of the other high-end young talent.

On the flip side, it sets up a near-doomsday scenario of Chabot/Tkachuk both hitting UFA status in 2027/28... but hopefully that will be a problem for the "next" owner.

We're all going to find out soon enough, aren't we?

For now I think it should be fun to watch this team grow, especially after this year. I don't think they make the playoffs this year but after that everybody watch out!

While it does seem like a bit of an overpayment, it does seem to send the messge the Melynk is willing to put his oney where is mouth is.

Paying Brady this much is just what he was asking for.

No, it's been reported that he will not skate tonight but will be in the building. It is possible he starts over the weekend.
