One of my favorite players of all time is Ryan Smyth. He was part of that magical oiler cup run in 2006.
I see a lot of similarities with Brady. I don't have the emotional attachment yet but that feeling is there. He is a guy that will step in front of a Chara slapshot in the playoffs for the team - no question about it |

This came from another post, but if signings like this continue,
will the Melnykout mentallity start to take a back seat? If they continue to actually start putting realy support towardst he players/team. |

Based on this, Ovie wins the Rocket, Ennis wins the Hart |

Ennis is terrific along the wall on the PP, 3rd line is a great spot for him!

A little too close for comfort, but happy to get the win. |

Sens pulled their 2nd collapse in the 3rd period instead, but hung on, thank goodness!!! |

Good call, Kevin. You were pretty close predicting a 4-2 win.
I on the other hand was completely wrong when I said I thought they'd get smoked.
Happy to be wrong. |

Thanks my friend! A lot of teams tonight that played the night before are getting smoked though! Buff over MTL easy and Detroit over TB easy, even though they played 2 nights ago. Home teams last night were 5-0 and tonight they are crushing it too!

While it does seem like a bit of an overpayment, it does seem to send the messge the Melynk is willing to put his oney where is mouth is.
Paying Brady this much is just what he was asking for. - david22

Kevin Francis: Brady Tkachuk signs a 7 year extension!!! - Kevin Francis
Dorion went on the record stating that the rebuild was complete and people sure tore into him. Not sure it was fair, as I too see some quality pieces in their lineup and in their system that certainly could grow into a serious contender. Sanderson is looking like a potential Hobby Baker winner with 1 gpg and 2ppg thus far in the NCAA, with Branstrom and Bernard-Docker both poised to crack the NHL shortly. This team could be a serious threat in as little as 1-2 years

Stuetzle did not score but he had a really strong game.
When Tkachuk comes back into the lineup he will take his spot on the first line with Norris and Batherson. I hope they keep Pinto, Brown and Paul together. They are very effective and very responsible.
Formenton is a star, it is not just his speed, he is an outstanding defensive player.
Probably a goofy idea on my part but I would like to see them go out and get a veteran playmaker to centre a line with Stuetzle and Formenton together. Both guys easily flip to either wing and both move really well off of the boards and get to the middle of the ice when attacking the net.
Really enjoyed last night's game. |

Pinto and Stutzle both looked good, depsite not scoring. Kelly also had a few good chances
Great getting some secondary scoring last night, I predict we see some of the bigger name on the scoreboard tomorrow. |

Great start. Winning is good. P.k looked a bit shaky. Defence is going to be a work in progress. Its only game 1 so no worries . It is essential though to beat their division as much as possible. As much as i like the ontario battles and look forward to Sat. I cant wait to see other teams |

Does the tkachuck contract have a yearly cap hit of 8.2 for the 7 years ? I know the payout fluctuates. |

It was a good win last night and Forsberg may push for the starters job (which may have more to do with how brittle Matt Murray is) but Zaitsev was a train wreck (2 horrendous giveaways and 2 bad penalties), Josh Brown looked out of place without the ability to cross check, and the score could have easily been 5-3 for the Leafs if it wasn't for Forsberg. |

Shaky game near the end but can’t complain about a win. Stu is only steps away from being a star. Hopefully timing gets together soon. He could possibly push for a point per game with efforts like last night.
Pinto was everywhere last night. He is still very raw, but you can tell something is there worth waiting for. Pleasantly surprised. Formenton was very similar and had a great shot to get the 3rd goal.
Forsberg was the reason for the win. He looked confident and effortless in goal. Great to see. Hopefully can put that together consistently.
Wanted a bit more from Batherson and Norris, but no sense in dwelling on game 1.
Leafs looked lost for 40 minutes until Spezza started to run things. Makes you wonder if he stuck around in Ottawa given this teams need at centre right now. Certainly not a long term solution, but capable stop gap. But alas hindsight 20/20. |

I believe that's how it will work out. Slight over-payment now, but should be a decent contract in 3 or so years when the cap goes up and players salaries continue to increase. Also, assuming Brady plays well the entire contract. |

Charlie McAvoy for 9.5 million today...
Gone are the days of a 6 million contract being "expensive". Get with the times. |
