Not sure the other half of post was cut?
…. Pretty decent showing against a good team. This team is moving in the right direction for sure. |

It’s a disappointing loss, for sure. BUT…this team has something that’s been missing for several years: Heart. They’re not quitting, staying engaged, sticking by each other regardless of the circumstances. There’s great talent. Excellent leadership. Quality plays.
There are a few guys that don’t give as much on the stat sheet (Stall…), but I also see them contributing in other ways; talking it up on the bench, mentoring. But at least we’re not dealing with guys who only clock in for a paycheck.
Tonight was another good game with a ton of bright spots. I’m highly encouraged by what’s on the ice. Montreal will be an interesting game. There’s some retribution needed. And the kids are hungry. It shows in each game, each shift. Oh, Stecher was sorely missed tonight. He’s much better than advertised. |

The rookies were EXCELLANT!!! All on the score sheet!
Now if Leddy would NOT give up the puck like that, the Wings would have completed the comeback!
- HenryHockey
I blame Greiss more than Leddy. It seems that at least 98% of the time he plays the puck, the opposition ends up with it on their stick.
The rookies are showing up. When mistakes are made, they keep it going in the right direction instead of getting “stuck”. Seider’s no look pass on the PP is a good example. They learn their lessons and keep it moving forward. |

Well said! Heart indeed!
I agree on Stetcher ( not at the cost of sitting Hronek), but I believe he would have played that 2on1 better than Oesterle did.

The kids look r e a l good!! Due to smart drafting and also I see a lot of Asst AT talking with the kids when they're on the bench. The pp and ppk are better. All of this make the head coach look good which is bad in my view. He might be a good coach at the college level but he is still no pro coach - the kids play and AT are making him look smart.
Maybe I'm wrong but I still don't believe Blash is the right coach for this group of kids. |

Leddy is a below average NHL defenseman who is clearly no longer capable of shouldering a top pair role. On a good team he is playing third pair / 2nd PP.
Staal should be a part timer at this point. He is replacement level at best.
DeKeyser doesn't have it anymore. Not that he was ever great to begin with, but his mobility seems to have been severely reduced by injury.
All three are out of their depth, but Leddy at least can still play in some capacity. |

Joe Veleno did, indeed, drive with Steve Yzerman from Detroit tonight. Just thought it would be easier than going to the airport. They listened to UM-MSU football, talked a bit, and Veleno slept a bit, too.

Could Stevie get a CDL and drive the team bus to Tampa when we play the Bolts next?

If i was a coach of a team playing the Wings, i would have my game plan be to attack the left side of the Wings defense as much as possible (dump ins, stretch passes ect...especially when DeKeyser and Staal are on the ice. They are just too slow for the game now and with pressure prone to mistakes.
I would love to see the defense play a couple of games without DeKeyser and Staal. I think it would be an improvement unless you replaced them with someone else that is slow or has no defensive awareness what so ever. This reminds me of the Sens at the start of last season when their coach insisted on playing a bunch of big slow defensemen. They kept losing and having a hard time getting out of their zone. Then after a while he finally wised up and took out a bunch of them and replaced them with more mobile guys that could move the puck and they improved instantly and were much more competitive.
Taking out DeKeyser wouldn't make it a great defense since players on the left side would still likely be slotted in roles they shouldn't be (no real top pair left side guy) but it would likely be a much needed improvement on its own. |

I advocated an FA signing or a trade to bolster this position. It doesn't look like the Wings are getting that help any time soon. The right side is good, but if the Wings lose Hronek or Seider for a while, the D would be a black hole.
There are 4 LD prospects in GR right now, We will probably see a couple of them at the end of March. |

Dekeyser - Stecher - Feds91Stammer Certainly more mobile. But it ain't gonna happen til Staal gets his 1000 games in 43 more games.
