Of course executives thought that, none of them want to make trades ever because they are so scared to.
And again, Eichel is still injured in part because of the Sabres. Right or wrong another team is letting him get the surgery, the Sabres didn’t
The fact that he hasn’t played and won’t play for another 3-5 months helps the optics for the Sabres - sbroads24
The fact that other teams were in agreement with the Sabres doctors which basically acted like a NMC limited things as well.
You're acting like this is a clear cut simple trade. This will be the most difficult trade Adams has to make in his entire career. You're dealing your franchise center, who is 25 yeas old and still under contract with a $10 million cap hit for 4 more seasons after this one, and OH he is demanding to have a surgery that has NEVER been performed on a NHL player before, let alone a $10 million one.
There was no way he was going to win this trade. He needed to do the best to not lose badly. I think he accomplished that.
Krebs and Tuch are good pieces. The 1st will be okay depending on where it falls, this draft is pretty deep.

Yes cause 4th line Lafreniere and KHL Kratsov would of been better than Krebs and Tuch
 - DirtyDan
nobody knows what the Rangers offers were.
The fact is TPegs wouldnt even let Kevin entertain it shows you that TPegs is still running the show, even though KA says he has full control. |

Also worth noting that Buffalo gets a $6,000,000 cap hit for less than $500,000 in actual salary.
Boychuk's salary this season is $1,250,000. However, 60% of that is insured (players aged 35+ are capped at 60%), meaning they're on the hook for only $500,000 prorated to today. |

Partly their choice as well though
I’m not complaining about it, we all were pretty much resigned to a return like this.
But I think that people feeling more relieved than it’s over than excited about what we got back should speak to how underwhelming it is.
Imagine after Eichel singlehandedly won us an OT game in Nashville turning MVP level Subban inside out that someday we’d trade him for two middle six players and a mid to late first in a few years? - sbroads24
All fair.

Short of trading him two off seasons ago there was no way Adams would sniff a win.
Truth be old, he would have gotten taken to the cleaners then considering he had next to zero help in the Hockey Department.

I can't really complain too much about it, but they should be using that cap space to get those contracts like the Coyotes did but oh well

But wait we got nothing for it though right? We did another team a favor essentially with a half million dollars? And we laid of half a scouting department?

The Sabres management of the last 7 years has failed the team and its fans greatly.
Adams has to dig them out. They have I think the right coach to start changing the mentality. Adams has surrounded himself with some well respected intelligent hockey people, and the Pegulas are too busy enjoying the Bills success.
It's going to take time to fix this mess, it won't happen overnight.

Yes. I also know that’s a big reason why the return sucks
What’s helped the Sabres and the optics of this is them dragging this out for months and months
Literally go back to the draft and read what we thought we could get for him.
Compare that to now and it’s laughable - sbroads24
Who, WE? Hockeybuzz posters who are not in the front offices. Let's just pile on and mail it in again, per individuals who knew/know nothing of the inner dealings of a hockey front office. OVER. DONE. MOVING ON.
