No surprise, but Monahan definitely appears to be in play.

Assuming the Senators would be interested (which is a discussion in itself), their only real trade advantage is that the Flames are looking to get back to playoff-competition, and other teams may prefer to only give up picks/prospects in order to keep their active roster more competitive. I could definitely see Tierney being in the deal, to maintain C depth in Calgary, plus maybe a prospect like Brannstrom or Formenton. Curious what other people's thoughts are about Monahan, though.

I’m not against bringing Sean Monahan. He’d immediately be our #1 centre. His contract is fine, expires after next season, so if it doesn’t really work out, you can walk away or use him as an asset in his final year. Monahan has a history in Ottawa obviously with the 67’s. There are good and bad parts to that most likely.

I’d imagine the asking price is significant and in what seems to be another subpar year, you’ll likely not want to deal away a 1st unless it’s top 10 protected or something. I can’t imagine Tierney doesn't gets a lot of GM’s phones answered. Branstrom should be a piece but his stock might be on the wrong side now with his injury.

So,

Why exactly would the Ducks trade Terry?

He’s been the ducks best forward and looks like a centerpiece in their turnaround.

I know it’s early and the Sens have been hit by Covid and all..but it’s not like this team was tearing it up when they were healthy.

The pessimist in me is already looking ahead towards the draft.

On the topic of Stutzle: he did play C at the worlds. It’s obviously a team decision to keep him on the wing. Let’s hope that changes because he’s shown that his passing and vision are something.

21 Draft: I wasn’t thrilled with the selections, but I also didn’t know much compared to the 20 draft..where I was super pissed on a bunch of selections (including Sanderson)

No to Monahan.I get the 67s connection but this is a guy who’s so streaky and inconsistent the last couple of seasons. If he doesn’t score, he’s not giving you much else.

Isn’t he playing on the 3rd line in Sutter’s system?

Absolutely... there's no shortage of yellow flags. Monahan has been trending badly for the past couple of seasons, and is losing ice time ground this year to Lindholm/Backlund. Then again, the whole idea of buying low is that you look for opportunities like this, then assess if the player might perform differently in a different situation, with more of an ice time opportunity, and a chance to play with a guy like Stutzle.

If I was Ottawa, I jump on this trade fast. Ottawa needs to insulate their young players like these other teams do, who everyone expected to be bottom feeders are now trending up. LA, Detroit and Anaheim.

With all the D Ottawa has, send one of them plus like someone on here suggested. Send Chris Tierney as well. This frees up money for the Flames to make an addition at the deadline too. Ottawa has plenty of picks this draft, whereas Calgary doesn't, send them a pick too. Tierney, Brannstrom and 2nd rd. pick?

But Monahan has been given ample opportunity and he hasn’t been able to make a dent.

I also don’t think the Flames would be willing to just GIVE him away. They could wait until next season and deal him at the deadline.

I posted in here yesterday I believe about Vegas possibly having covid issues and it might be from when they played Ottawa. Well, they lost Marsh now they claim this guy, that makes you wonder if management knows other guys are going to be out because of covid. I don't know if any of you have seen the covid cases in China, but they are nuts and the NHL is going to send players over there? What if McDavid catches covid over there? The guy wouldn't be allowed out of that country forever. This could go sideways fast.
